In the US the religious folks (Im tempted to use a different "F" word to descirbe them) have been successful at labeling evolution a "theory" even though it is established fact. This has helped them cloud the issue. This has been a tactic of the right for quite some time -- it allows them to frame debates. They have lots of phrases like that -- "Theory of Evolution", "Activist Judges", "Tax and Spend Democrats", the list goes on. How could you be for "activist judges"? The name sounds terrible, however, you'll find thats their word for judges who UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION and don't agree with them. Here we call republicans "cheap labor republicans" to combat them with their own techniques.
I had a brief skirmish with the tech book publishing industrty (and believe me thats the right word). The real problem is they pay authors BY THE PAGE so their incentive is to write flowery, lengthy language which conveys as little information in as much space as possible. This in turn justifies high book prices and higher author royalties.

A friend of mine in high schools (we look to be about the same age) cousin was offered the job of the "yellow" power ranger but turned it down thinking it couldn't pay enough.:)

However the privacy laws protect the fraudsters, i cant even find out who it is or where this property is. Only reason I found out was because I went to open an account at the bank and all these property transactions came up under my ssn -- the lady messed up and told me one of the names.
The symantec client updates every 1-2 weeks by default. However, you can change this setting to daily. I know this is true in the corporate version
Ok, but is symantec updating their defs every 1-2 days? Trend updates 2 or 3 times a day on slow days. I was under the impression that symantec updates their defs like once a week.
I think scott probably did it, but the notion that you could be asked by the police at any time to prove your whereabouts is frightening. Can i prove that I spent all night playing savage in my apartment? Can i prove I was stuck in traffic?
Well, if you think about per capita, the UK has a much worse problem. However, I think what theyre really saying is, "sales of symantec products poor in the UK."

Maybe its just being an adult now... but as a HUGE fan of the original metroid, I found Prime while a great game from a lot of standpoints -- impossible to play. I got through a lot of the game. I find being sent from one portion of the map to another to be tedious and a placeholder for *real* content. I know thats what the original game did -- but thats becuase thats all the original game COULD do with 256k of program/video space. I still had some fun with the game, but I absolutely gave up when it told me I needed to go completely across the world ithat would take an HOUR.
Why didn't you just rat them out? Or where they the football players and the school didn't care?
Depends on the professor... some simply dont care, others care but arent willing to meet with the dean, ombudsman and academic dishonesty council. The ones that did care we generally did rat them out.
For instance: The final CS course was a project course, 10 weeks to write a compiler basically. It was *EXTREMELY* tough. Imagine not knowing how a compiler works, and having to write one as you learn how they work. Im a damn good programmer and I got a C, my compiler compiled only generated code to evaluation expressions - most peoples didnt even generate code at all. Anyways -- we knew a LOT of people were cheating, there was an email going around that had the source code, and some stupid people who were asking me questions about how to get started were asking me questions about how to finish a few days later (mine took me 100+ hours to finish). One girl called me up and asked "my program is throwing asserts and I don't know why?" (If she had written the assert she would have understood why it happened). So we went to the professor, and he was *LIVID*, and he said basically, "i'll take care of it."
So the day of the final, this professor gave the normal final, and an EXTRA final which was only for negative credit -- each question you got wrong basically took away a question on the real final. The second final had quesitons like, "how did you implement the ??? in your compiler?" and "what was the function name of your tokenizer?" Stuff that would be impossible for you not to know if you had done the project. Only one person who cheated passed the class that im aware of.
But thats the danger of cheating -- I was one of the best CS students, if I had turned in a barely working compiler and a bunch of bozo students turn in working compilers, it makes ME look bad, not them look good.

A few years ago the music labels were convicted of price fixing and fined an order of magnitude less then they *MADE* from the scam. The message the government sends with toothless prosecutions is "don't get caught next time."
The government is supposed to provide a fair and safe playing field for companies to do business on. If company A cheats to make a profit, then company B will have to to compete.
Reminds me of when i was in college -- the flunk courses were graded on a curve. And there were these fuckers who were always cheating and I could never score half as well as they did. So i worked hard for C's and D's, while people who were cheating were getting easy A's and B's. Then I realized -- the people who were cheating were *SETTING* the curve which I was being judged by. So I became a cheater to.

I read the enzyte people have made 50 million dollars so far (and that was sometime last year). Would you goto jail for a couple years for 50 million dollars? I would.

IMHO capitalism is pretty much a race to the bottom. Its just the best system there is so far. The only way to beat the bottom is to be informed and vote with your money.
Since people have demonstrated that they will buy *ANTHING* a corporation puts in front of them -- corporations do just that. If people en masse demanded something -- corps would respond. But as long as we allow *THEM* to tell us what we want, we're stuck with our race to the bottom.
I mean; come on; the industry has needed radical changes for how long?

If you want innovative games instead of cookie cutter crap start BUYING innovative games and refuse to hand over your money for anything less. I own a GC, ps2, and two xboxes and between them all under 10 games. I've bought 1 pc game in the last 3 years.
People are perfectly willing to plunk down 50$ for a crappy game, so why should they change?

If stable is important to you, have a look at Gentoo Stable. I know folks who run gentoo on computational clusters and such, so it is certainly possible:)
