I think it's a pity Chase did not win. About a month ago I got an email from them inviting me to unlock my account via the internet. Their website was very easy to use and I had no problems at all filling in all the details.
I also forwarded the email to my associates, Panikovsky and Balaganov, I thought they would enjoy the services of such a nice company.
Could some hardware oriented slashdotters shed some light on this: why is there no further compartimentalisation done inside the kernel? Why should a driver be able to destroy memory areas that have no relevance to it? A fault in the driver should be signaled to the calling code rather than break everything.
I see a similar thing with running processes. A bad library can bring down the whole process.
Is is too expensive to associate a different set of privileges in hardware for every driver in the kernel?
In TFA they say: the Sonic Tower shouldn't block access to anything on your motherboard. It's not always true, on a Tyan Tomcat mobo it will push against the VGA card, I had to bend it a bit so that it does not touch any contacts.
They would do well to have a distro that they controlled so that they could tightly integrate the OS dev with their product development.
I don't know about them but I want to run whatever distribution I choose. If you want to install Oracle amd64 on Ubuntu you have to make the installer detect RedHat otherwise it refuses to run. I found this more annoying than all the other problems I had during the install.
I am starting to get sick and tired of all these PR scientists. I guess a dry description of what they found will never generate as much fame as saying: we've just proven evolution.
Vinik after discovering Ingap hired a public relations person. And it was all a miracle until the phase 2 tests. Hwang Woo-suk risked and lost all credibility in cloning just by trying to be the famous. And the list goes on forever.
If it works so well show us an application. Otherwise show it to your peers that can have a qualified opinion.
(Ubuntu) It's just not a very "corporate friendly" distro.... I run Kubuntu on my Linux machine at home
And so are many of us. That's how Windows made it into the workplace, everyone already knew it from home. If there were only more games for Ubuntu it's enterprise future would be certain.
I really don't understand why parent was modded Funny. I compile from the trunk on a daily basis and I see nothing unusual about that. At least not among slashdotters.
I am not sure if this is of interest but in Europe I have noticed a shortage of Opteron dual core chips. So far the only place where I could find some was a couple of shops in Germany and they went out of stock quite fast.
All shops in USA that I could find and that had them did not ship overseas.
I think leaving this for the editors to solve is not getting us anywhere. Maybe a Firefox extension to filter out dupes is the way out.
The question is how does a program recognise a dupe? My first guess would be to verify the links in the story intro against a list of already posted ones. I would not go for read links as not that many people read the articles first.
If I am to believe the stories in the newspapers all you need to put up Google is a russian an american and a garage. There's lots of russians in Europe, we certainly have garages and I there's definitely americans as well. There is of course this little detail of finding the exact russian, american and garage. So what we need to do is lock them in random pairs in every garage until we find the right combination.
So on this occasion I would like to invite Anna Kournikova in my garage for some googling.
During the last month I only used my gmail account. When I saw this story about hotmail I went and check my hotmail inbox. Everything had been deleted.
So long and thanks for all the spam
So sad that it should come to sham
Initially I was shocked that the creator of Winamp showed together with Gates but a quick google search revealed that the one in the article is another Justin.
I think we should be allowed to mod the stories as well as the comments. This way we could get rid of both the dupes and the trolls like the current story.

Marc, don't try to live up to all our expectations. Stop posting as AC.
Before realising it was coming from ESA - European Space Agency I thought it was another article about McDonalds.

Wanted to give it a try but then I read that it needs ALSA. The Nvidia driver for NForce4 mobos only implements OSS.
The moslems only attacked Persia in 638. It seems to me that at least one of these inventions have nothing to do with Islam.
Sometimes you don't get punished for being honest. This sounds like a perfect candidate for: In Soviet Russia...
Konica Minolta said the market had become too competitive, and added it would sell its digital camera business to Japanese electronics giant Sony.

Any other ideas?

Could anyone suggest a better rhyme for spam?
I wish I could metamoderate also as Funny not as just Fair/Unfair. The parent comment about cloning stories on Slashdot was modded Redundant.
Will future versions be able to read what he saved? And even if they could will it render the same?
I don't believe that, I have yet to see a post on Slashdot with the subject: Netcraft Confirms it ... Steve Jobs, dead at 54
As you can see here the remote control for the Dreambox has a lot more keys.
