Awsome. I'm exceedingly limetied on resources, but this would make getting a solaris box much more viable currently. Gret for learning. Eventually one day I might consider picking up an ultrasparc box anyway. Mmm. Yeah. Can't wait fo solaris 10
GTK = gimp tool kit, it came before as a tool kit for gimp.. then others saw its power and started using it and it got developed into a more flexible gui toolkit. GNOME later based itself upon that.
I don't know about kde, but since they went the c++ route, gtk being in c, qt may have made more sense
Yes. Don't worry. I stick to Enlightenment myself. Really wouldn't touch kde. Gnome maybe I'd poke, for instance if I ever get solaris, I might use it. But I do like gtk... well.. use it more any way because mroe things depend on it... largly its only a theming issue for me... I suppose
If i had to choose I'd go with ewl when it and the rest of E17 come out. It will be the most totally owning thing ever. In the mean time, yeah.
I don't use IRC a whole lot, and file swap with it less, but if I do recal, dalnet was the place to go for warez and such. The communities were just there. If it does break up and fragment, people like you will go elsewhere, like the undernet. Its like any population explosion. You accuratly coined "refugee". It's true. And you know what, a lot more may be coming. A lot more familiar faces to you. Fellow file swapping refugees. Who are, like you, willing to start over in a new home.
The moral of the story. Keep trying, and keep your head up for familiar people. It may never be the same, but I think it can get better than it is now;) If this worksout, more will be coming !
If the protocol has important info, like info about deadlocking, and not the underlying server it self, wouldn't this be a huge problem. Wouldn't this make it a feild day for hackers, or at least people who want to break things. Just craft one or two fucking packets that say they can access something locked by someone else and poof. Error Error Error.
Never again read the washinton post
This article is taking the exact place (link et all) of an article this morning talking about the successful landing of the shuttle. They are liers and awful journalists.
This is ridicoulous. I saw the origional article and it was talking about all the things that were happening now that the crew had landed (like the rats having been disected) and so forth. Terrible journalism. Then the article was pulled. And now the same link leads to an article about the tragedy. Terrible news reporting on behalf of th washinton post. Just plain attrocious. Someone should be penalized for this.
Aern't they missing the point
on
Shutting down Kazaa
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
Um... Even from the article it doesn't look like kazaa will be "going down" any time soon. Sherma nset it up so that it would be pretty much impossible to take apart, wheather or not he was still involved with it. I really don't think the media industry has any idea what they are dealing with. They seem to think that now that they have him it will end. They can do eveything they want to him include kill him and kazaa will live on. They really have nothing but the man who started it. Kudoos to him tho;)
Bank cards, i believe. Like debit cards... Don't know much about them, but from the looks of 'em, you slide 'em through a reader, enter your pin number, and then they dial into the bank and confirm its you and that you have the money and then transfer it
so yeah, they have to be online. the MS SQL server backing that would obviously be the same back end server backing the atms. Thus, they all go down.
This, hot on the tails of the.org nameserver changing to postgress? They're gonna look super cool today. And I don't think anyone can blame them for not using microsoft either.
This is attrocious and I hope more of the name servers switch because this is ridicoulous.
Why is such an important internet protocol being run on MS boxes? where were they when the internet was being created? No in existance. Keep the interent where it belongs, on unix. (Granted bind does have a bad history, but still, 9.2.1 has given me no problems.:)
I'm sorry, but if you're running debian, these fonts won't be considered secure and included in the distro for a few years to come.
Target date: Some time after debian starts using X 4.*
First off, yes there is plenty of irony in both the descision and marvel pushing it
Second, I do disagree with it and think the rulling is questionable and probably stupid
but
three
Who really cares too much. They are toys and the ruling does allow them and "their message" to be spread easier. It toys, not real people. Cool it folks until real mutants start showing up.
By the standards the judge seemed to use, most people with disabilities would be classified non human probably, so this clearly is following the real world
i do think the judge's desciosion is very questionable, but lets cool it
we've alreayd proven that the real world is more forgiving than said judge
Relax
I truely hope they are ok. Mandrake was my first distro and a wounderful way for windows users to get the hang of linux. My friends and I agree that the mandrake install is easier than that of windows. I hope they can continue on because they are a wounderful distro.
I don't believe tihs will work for a few reasons...
one, the virus isn't an executable pretending to be an mp3. It is not a matter of playing the mp3
The "virus" is in fact a small bit of code located in the mp3, directly after a malformed title I believe. Further more, I don't believe the code can even do anything on non windows systems, and I believe it will only get called by a bug in winamp 2.79 or less, thus if you run windows AND use winamp, simply upgrade.
The lack of a linux client is dissapointing. I mean, they're kind of missing the support of a crowd of geeks who mzny have the habit of owning one or many powerful computers, and of whom many strongly dislike microsoft and would be very very happy to lend a helping hand to this challenge. If they're still around in febuary and have the linux client hten, I'll be back for it:)
Provided I have the money, I'll be buying a new server and new desktop box. And then cram them full of ram and sit back (actually, probably forward a bit, best work posture etc. etc.) and enjoy:)
From reading the article, I think you can actually determine that the authors first language is not english (although he has a perfectly fine/useable grasp of it), and therefor he does not know what the word reserved means, as stated when he says, "I don't know what Reserved might mean". Thus, his excitment is excusable.
And FreeBSD 3.0, when 4.7 is current, 5.0 is just around the corner. A bit strange, and almost makes you wounder, but, still, I have to assume that if it's running on that many OS, its pretty good, and they did say they tested 50 OSs, these were just *some*...
I dunno... visually impressed more so yes. But considering the doom engine and tools, this is a more impressive acomplishment I think
How would I determine if my ISP supports ipv6?
MacOSX supports ip6 because it is based ontop of BSD, which supports ipv6. Linux also supports it.
If mono, a recreation of .NET already exists, how can they patent it now when this clear previous example exists?

Does the panel support transparencies yet. It doesn't seem to say indicating no, and that's dissapointing.

>and a toolkit on a platter,
and what per chance is gtk? gimp tool kit, yes, but it largly goes hand in hand with gnome.
And are you absolutly sure kde came first? I sort of though GNOME was first.
And yes, GNOME is bigger

I must admit, the "happy meal ethernet" kernel code is amusing. drivers/net/sunhme.c check out the happy_meal_tcvr_write function :)
