Well, lately I've been noticing that a lot of the crack sites around (of course I never use them... uhh..) have started with Java spyware... Instead of the regular accept this activex crap dialog, I instead get one for a java-applet. I guess if I'd accept them they'd have the same access as a regular desktop java-app?
Luckily they're very easy to block with the adblock plugin. Just click the underlined adblock keyword down to the right, and select it from the list.
The fact that they have content producing divisions give them a serious conflict of interest. My first stationary dvd player was a Sony. It doesn't play anything but original dvds. No burned dvdrs, no burned music cds. And it costs 150$ to mod it anyways. I've been extremely dissapointed with it, and it made me decide never to buy any such things from Sony again.
Ok, so there's a huge increase in bandwidth these days, but won't there still be a problem with lag for the forseeable future? That would make a system pretty much useless for stuff like games.
Oh, and I don't think networked games that run locally on a computer, like those today, are comparable. I mean, they run all sorts of predictive algorithms and local calculations to make it work. If we're talking complete game screenshots being sent to the client, we're talking about huge amounts of bandwidth, and very little tolleration for lag.
I'm not realy an expert. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass here?
Hmm, I'd say LaTeX would be a good alternative? There are interpreters for most platforms, the source files are plain text, and it can output a variety of readable formats (pdf,ps,html etc).
Valve's present business model could rock the foundation of the gamining industry.
I sure hope not. I've bought something for the first and last time from Steam. When I struggled for 7-8 HOURS to get it to work, I said to myself NEVER EVER AGAIN.
Couldn't the statistic on Opera usage be largely scewed by the fact that it makes it very easy to identify as Internet Explorer? I think more and more people are discovering that just leaving the identification as IE gives them much less of a hassle. Personally I've started identifying as GoogleBot, since it makes a lot of sites behave much more nicely.
You downloaded that email out of your own free will. Surely it couldn't be considered the virus authors fault that you ran it and it completely messed up your system?...
I think it's fair that people should be able to expect certain qualities from software they download from a software firm. At the VERY least it should be easy to remove it. At least in the past, this hasn't been the case with Real's software.
Can you seriously blame them though? If someone kicks you in the balls one time, you're pretty reluctant to ever go back to them again. Speaking from my own point of view, every time I can get someone to drop installing something from Real, I feel the joy of sweet revenge bubbeling inside me.
Here in Norway pretty much every single media outlet uses Windows Media. I'm not saying that's all nice and dandy, but IMO it's the lesser of two evils (WM vs RM). It would take a LOT for me to even consider installing Real Alternative, and it would probably be pretty much impossible to ever get me to install the original Real Media Player ever again. The only mainstream page I use that uses Real is BBC. I can live without those news clips. I'll watch them on the TV instead.
I hated my HP49 so much that I recently bought myself a brand new TI-89. I do not agree with your recommendation at all. The HP49 is slow and bloated. And compared to the TI-89, it's screen is awfull, to say the least.
NRK != TV2
NRK webtv is free. You only need to go through a free registration process.

The result has probably been cached after dozens of others did the search before you.

So, does these WMAs show the user an EULA before they install crap? If not, isn't this blatantley illegal?

Do you feel the same way about viruses?

Careful now... You just might go to jail... :)

The main reason why I haven't bought a CD in ages is because they're all copy-protected these days. :(
