  1. Re:Why? on Slashdot Tries Something New; Audience Responds! · · Score: 4, Insightful

Amazing, I hadn't thought about it in that sense until you mention it. 800x600 CRT. it's like viewing AOL on that small monitor of my old Win 3.1 system 20 years ago. Horrible. Strangely, I do think they are listening. If not, they wouldn't have responded this quickly with such voracity. I'm actually thankful for that. Let's just hope they actually DO give us the option to keep "Classic". If not, I won't be around much afterwards.

  2. Re:No mention of Sim City in TFA on Electronics Arts CEO Ousted In Wake of SimCity Launch Disaster · · Score: 1
AS you state, yes, this MAY not be specifically because of Sim City, as in, the total sum of ALL the reasons that Riccitiello was fired. Yes, the Q4 earnings were pretty pathetic. My point is: who's to say that, Riccitiello didn't go to the board and say something like "Yes gentlemen, I know the latest earnings aren't where I predicted they would be, BUT, as you can see, Sim City is coming along, and I can tell you it is going to be a SMASH HIT! I am so confident of this game to make up the difference in the earnings (just like SWTOR was going to), that I am willing to put my job on the line."

As it is, Riccitiello, as of late (and previously mentioned by another poster), has had a very anti-customer approach to ALL EA games. That, in and of itself, could be the biggest thing against him. He's been promising to the damn board for years that their earnings would keep going up and up, and all of the gamers have just continued to be more, and more, fed up with his tactics. So much so, that they stopped buying them. When they did, they get this Sim City hunk o' junk. It's one giant slap in the face.

Now, add on the Amazon debacle, the twisted pile of crap PR that's against them, and you have a mixture of really poignant reasons why he's been ousted, or resigned, or whatever 'slant' you want to give it.

To say that, "No the article doesn't specifically state Sim City as the reason" , may be true, however, what's stated in the article is not necessarily the WHOLE truth behind his (ahem) untimely departure.

  3. sure. I would be quite interested to see how it would come out. Currently, I am, well at least, employed, thought I am not quite sure it would be considered underemployed. A resume review/rewrite would be good. Drop a line to jeremy at kthoris.com. Thanks.

  4. Best Overall Reference Book on Good Physics Books For a Math PhD Student? · · Score: 1

Being a Physics student myself, I found this gem: Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences by Mary Boas It covers a huge array of information in the methods needed for Science. It gives great explanations for them, what they are used for, how to use them, and gives lots of practice examples at the end of each chapter. Super book. Nearly indispensable.

  5. What about other 3rd party patches on ESRB Revokes San Andreas Rating · · Score: 1

I remember a nice little patch for the Sims that made the little char's naked and removed the blurred out parts when you showered and used the toilet. Maybe they should consider changing the rating of that one? How many others out there..... What about Tomb Raider and it's 'patch' for Lara?

  6. Re:Neverwinter Nights is dying! on Bioware CEOs Discuss Neverwinter Nights · · Score: 1

I do have to agree with rtrifts here. The NWN community at large is quite, well, large. They have over 1 million posts in 1 year. not bad for a game that some people say is "lackluster" and no one is going to really play it anymore.

Although I tend to agree with the fact that bioware didn't do the best job on the planet implementing the single player version, nor did they fully extend their hand to the community with a load of tools to use, they have given those of us (myself included for those of you who would recognize my nick...) a central place to post questions, comments, and have encouraged modding their game.

If they would only push a little harder on promoting the mod's for their game, and give credit where credit is due, then maybe they would win over a larger crowd of people. I don't mean to say they don't recognize certain members of the community... What I am saying is that if they pushed some of the very *Excellent* mods that are out there a little bit more, the game as a whole, may gain more widespread acceptance.....

Course the reason they don't could be because they don't want to be embarrased by someone, or a group of someones, who's work makes theirs look sub-standard..... course, I could be wrong. ;)
