I'd hardly say that Gates is non technical. I doubt he could have acheived to head one of the largest money making coorporations without starting from somewhere, and he dind't have millions of programmers when he started with BASIC back 30 years ago.
Not that I'm saying he's any better than Torvalds but Gates does have great technical abilities.
...yeah and that might work until the government found a way to break into your news system and started secretly replacing quality reporters you know with the faceless ones in your scenario...
Simple. People stopped using dialup and 3Com couldn't keep up in the NIC card market.
But seriously, 3Com used to make some very high quality modems when I first started getting into the internet.
Wait... it did say that it can look into student's emails and instant messages right? So basically it is giving the University free right to look into student's messages and claim that they are merely looking for illegal songs. There has got to be something that can be done by the students at these universities to block this. This is a total invasion of privacy. If any university tries to impose this onto the students attending, the students must do something. Hopefully we haven't lost all of our rebellious nature.
I run a website, http://www.system7.org/. The entire page and all of the content got stolen by someone who makes a CD called Hackers Tookit 2.0. I saw one of these Hackers Toolkits at a computer show and looked for any information, but of course there wasn't any. All of the leads I got to try and contact this mysterious theif were dead ends. Someone stole the entire System7 database of files and the HTML pages themselves and put it on a CD and sold it.

I can understand using something other than Windows, but to NOT use a Window System at all, it just seems like he is maybe too afraid to advance to the window age. Obviously, the window system is accepted by the masses and it has its advantages over the old text mode system.
