Spider Man - Action flick based on a comic with over 20 years of established history and characters designed to entertain comic geeks and action movie fans
Star Wars Ep II - S.F. Flick based off the old serials (read Flash Gordan) designed to be a simple but engaging story designed to entertain audiences from age 6 - 86
Two different generes each with their own merits, the movies are not comparable
Dude, there hasn't been a single Star Wars movie that the critics have liked. None of the Star Wars movies were Criticaly Aclaimed. All the power of Star Wars came after the fact. Ebert had nothing to do with the sucess of Star Wars. Stop listening to critics and judge the movie for yourself.
You mean in making a classic film, the director used classic bits of older films? Holy shit! Seriously take it easy, Lucas rips things out of other films and so does every other director.
Back when the first three episodes were being made, Lucas had actors of the caliber that could probably swing having no set around them
You're kidding right? Did you pay much attention to the acting in the original trilogy, they couldn't have done any better with pure blue screen than the new guys did. It's all in whether or not you can retain the power of imagnination you had as a kid.
It wasn't an attempt to reflect Luke in empire, nor does it have anything to do with latin (unless it did even in the original). In Jedi, when vader is fighting Luke, he gets his right hand sliced off. If you'll notice, there were mechanics and wires undertneith. He had to loose his right hand somewhere.
To start, mod the parent up, here's something worthy of reading. Star Wars was killed not by bad actors (the original had plenty of bad acting) nor bad characters, or bad love scenes, or anything else other than Hype. All you people that are disapointed over the Star Wars prequals (I will admit, Ep. I was bad) have too high an expectation for what was originaly a cheap serial style sci-fi flick. Star Wars was never meant to be a revolutionary and thought provoking 1984, or Matrix. Star Wars is just a good story. Sit back, relax and enjoy the story and stop trying to make it something it isn't
Second, if you're going to steal other people's work, give credit to where it's due (refering to the parent of this whole thread)
Did you even see the new movie yet? The new movie is what Star Wars was all about. The new movie in fact is arguably on par with the original trilogy. Yes the acting sucked, but when was the last time you took a good long look at the old trilogy, the acting sucked in that too.
Obi Wan leaping through a window and catching the flying droid thingy
Many many many Jedi, each with a unique fighting style battling it out in an arena
Psyco kitty trying to kill Amidala
Clone army fighting with the Jedi
Obi Wan saying to Anikin "Why do I feel you'll be the death of me."
Chasing the female bounty hunter
C-3PO & R2-D2 as the comic relief
The battle sequence between the Count and Anikin
Yoda kicking ass in surround sound
And of course, Amidala demonstrating just how cold it is aboard a starship
How many more memorable moments could you ask for out of a movie? Why don't you all get off your high horses and stop expecting an age defying, world shatering myth. That's not what Star Wars was ever about. Star Wars was about the story. A battle between good and evil. No more, no less.
The difference of course being that all of your situations and alternatives apply to and affect only one person. If you're in a private screening with just your firends, by all means type away at a laptop while you watch the movie. However, as a movie goer, I would prefer you don't do it while I'm there. The same applies to cell phones at concerts. I'm a big fan of cell phones, but taking them to a concert and leaving them on (unless you are a doctor on 24 hour call) is just plain rude.
Speaking from an audience members stand point, it (either the laptop in a theater or cellphones) is distracting, and detracts from the experience.
Speaking from a performer's standpoint, we hate it. We put a lot of time and effort into what we do, and if you're going to come see us, than give us your undivided attention. If you want to surf the net, order merchendise etc etc etc, do it on your own time, not ours.
Technology has it's uses and it's places. Just as you would not bring a stereo to a musical or a play, you don't bring a laptop to a movie.
See Theater Schedules & Order Movie Tickets to coming shows
Do this when you're out of the theater. 5 minutes at home can get you a months worth of tickets. If you can't remember the preview you saw, then it didn't make that big of an impression on you, and you don't want to see it that bad anyway.

What makes you think they want to listen to you in the first place? And even if you're not talking, any noise or flashing indication that you have a message will be just as (or more annoying) to movie goers.

When the hell would you ever want to do that?
Surfing to related or official websites for the current movie showing.
What could be on those sites that is more interesting than the movie at hand? Character bios? OH JOY!
Surfing to the InternetMovieDataBase [imdb.com] for related data to movie, actors and screen writers.
Wait till you get home. The last thing we need is someone wanking off to the latest modeling pictures of Angelina Joli (sorry for the name butcher)
Connecting to promotions related to movie sponsor.
Right, cause not only do I like watching preview, I love reading advertisements while I watch my movie.
Driving the movie content in real-time via audience response in Digital Theaters.
I can see this now, some 20 year old college student pushing the button for more blood and sex while some 40 year old mom is sitting there pushing the "Cuddly Soft" button.
Ordering Food and drinks from the kitchen and bar without talking.
It would be less distracting for you to get up and get the food yourself than to have an attendent walk in and yell out "Which person ordered the double buttered grease tub bucket -o-popcorn?"
Ordering the movie soundtrack online or video releases in advance.
Once again, wait till you get home. It won't get there any faster if you order it at 12 or at 3
Watching an alternate streaming movie if the one on the big screen doesn't make it for you.
I'm sure this violates the DMCA somewhere. And not only that, but if the movie doesn't interest you, you're supposed to walk out and demand your money back, that's how theaters know which movies are doing good, which are doing ok and which just plain suck.
I agree 100%. If you're so friggen busy that you can't shut off your laptop, PDA, cell-phon etc for the 2 hours it would take to watch a friggen movie, then you shouldn't be at the theater. Some of us actualy like to enjoy our lesure time as such.
Obviously you are not one to take much of an observance of life. Nor one who is a fan of british humor.
In his H^2G^2 Series, Adams took a rather playful and accurate punch at life, and nailed it on the nose. Life truly is silly. There are so many things that happen arround us every day that we take for granted as perfectly normal and yet would make anyone who was not acustomed to our lives go "What the hell?"
Life was meant to be enjoyed in a way that is condusive with happiness. The infamous "Don't Panic" mantra is one that should be taken to heart. Life does have a mysterious way of working out, and even if it doesn't, in the end we die anyway, so why should you worry that your toast was burned thismorning, or that you can't find your socks. Just take life one breath at a time and enjoy.
Artists will be able to make money off albums, but they will have to do it the right way. They will have to make you want to buy the album. Include original artwork etc (take a look at old records, some of the artwork that was on the sleeves of those is probably worth more than the album itself. People also like to have original copies. Artists can make money off albums, but they're going to have to cost a lot less. That's where self recording comes in. The technology availible today should alow most artists to make a record their own albums well enough to get popular, and then be able to use that money to sign the recording company, not the other way arround.
However, I do agree that the real test of artists will be in their performances. That's where they will need to make their money.
There is a difference between putting my name on my personal web page and giving my name, number etc to someone in a chat room. One requires the pedophile to actively search for the information pertinant towards me, the other requires the pedophile to do what it's good at, lureing people.
Congradulations, you clicked on the link to my home page, pulled my name from there and plugged it into Google. How very talented of you. Again though, it was my concious choice to provide my name and email adress on my home page. I know the risks associated with that and chose to take them anyway. So what if you know what town I live in, that doesn't change the fact that in order for you (or anyone) to accost me in the way that is described in these horro stories, you would still have to arange a meeting with me. Common sense dictates that I wouldn't go to any such meeting. Some one could just as easily discover stuff about me by following me on the street.
But that's just more anecdotal evidence, look at the statistic!!!!! See it says after going outside in the winter they got sick, so that has to be the cause! SEE SEE?
Seriously, you proved my point right there, statistics are very misleading.
Except you got it all wrong. Demanding control over your hardware and software is not a bad thing. When will you people learn that the most sucessful people are the people that demand control. Don't believe me, let's start a list:
Bill Gates: insists on control of the OS industry. Why? Not definative, but theoreticaly he want's a universal standard of operations on computers.
James Cameron (think Terminator and Titanic): Known as being a very demending director who knows and insists on having what he wants. The result is a stream of rather sucessful movies.
Steve Jobs: Until he came back, Apple was floundering because they were trying to please everyone and offer everything. This was simply dumping money and killing the business. Jobs came back and had insisted on direct control over the mac. Ergo, end of clones and only 3 or 4 options per group of macs.
Control is not a bad thing. Abuse is a bad thing.
BTW, using a mac and using a PC are two very different experiences, give it a try one day and you might be suprised.

So why do people buy Sun and SGI servers? And so just because Apple doesn't have any previous standing, what prevents them from trying? IBM didn't have any previous standing in home computers when Apple was still making the original Apple, but that didn't stop them from trying. Why shouldn't apple try to expand their business?
That's another case to take to court, whether the lable is adequate. However, I would much rather see the case of intentional damage to the computer be taken to court.
Perhaps I'm wrong but I have a feeling this review was ripped off of another site (the "realeased thursday" line sort of gives it away).
Besides, this is to well writen linguisticaly to be a slashdot reader.
Even extensive knowledge of the SW universe does not answer the questions you asked.

Be's case is rather clearly outlinned in the PDF on their web page. It reads like a bedtime story too.

Just pick-up and join in on the Be lawsuit (www.beincorporated.com). Be has a much stronger case than the states in my opinion.
Cost. SCSI costs much more, meaning a higher price. However, it wouldn't have been a bad idea to include a built in SCSI interface.
