Coops can be great things. I am highly in favor of community coops for health insurance, for example.And things like profit sharing can even bridge the gap between a traditional business and a coop. I am against having the terms of my ownership dictated to me.
Also, a coop set up like you describe would almost certainly have to be a corporation, which adds a whole new level of complexity to building a business. I imagine that most small businesses couldn't afford to become coops in the first place.

While I do contract Perl work for my main income, I also operate a small town computer repair service. I've grown this side business over the past 3 years into a decent little business. I've taken the time and effort to build a solid reputation, and as a result I have a sizable chunk of the computer repair service in the town and the surrounding area. In fact, my main competitor keeps trying to offer me his business. I don't bother buying it, because I am gradually absorbing his business anyway(he has horrible people and repair skills; he essentially got by for years because he was the only game in town).
I've had several kids asking me for a job. If I were to hire one, I would have to train them, schedule appointments for them, and introduce them to my customers. They could easily go and start their own business. Instead, they want to benefit from my hard work and investment. Which is fine. But I won't give them partial ownership over the business I grew. If we can come to an agreement as to what would be a fair wage for their services, then we can work together. If not, given that we have a free market, they are free to compete with me, or to find other employment.
So, tell the B&B that from now on, you will answer any messages you get attempting to contact them with a "out of business" message. I'm pretty sure that they will change it.
You remember correctly. I was amazed that they got away with full frontal nudity. I stayed up many a night, watching that when the others went to sleep.

Perhaps it's too mentally taxing for you to understand that some comments pertain to subsets of all the possibilities.

I am talking about the fact that you lump bikers in with addicts and the mafia, and you specifically say that it is "best to avoid contact altogether." As to priests and marriage, married priests are allowed in the Catholic Church. Suprised? Look up the Eastern Rite Churches, or the priests who converted from Lutheranism or Episcopalianism. It is a discipline in the Latin Rite(what most people think of when they think Catholic), but disciplines are not doctrine, and can be changed or modified at any time. And it's not like anyone is forced to be a priest in the first place.
As for ordaining women, that is, as JPII pointed out, a lack of authority. Jesus didn't ordain any women, so the Church doesn't either. If you find this unfair, feel free to become Episcopalian.

My motto, when dealing with ANY journalist, is to assume that they were paid to sell you something(either by a business or the government, but I repeat myself), and weigh their coverage accordingly. I also try to get news of interest from as many sources as possible, including foreign(non-US) sources. Welcome to the real world, where every conservative doesn't automatically listen to Fox News or support the Republican party in everything.
As far as I can tell, the "religious right" had a problem with the game as it was, precisely for the violence and lewdness. It is always used as a poster child for bad media. This bruhaha came about because some of the left(namely, Clinton) saw a chance to pick up the more conservative soccer moms with a "think of the children" gambit.

With all the children waiting for adoption or at least a foster home, I can't fathom the desire to spend large sums of money on such a procedure.
I've got a few. Still hunting the PE box, but I have some of those clunky keyboards, and the ever popular speech synthesizer. I used to love the female voice used on Parsec. Of course, I also cursed her after the 1000000th time I crashed into a stalagtite trying to refuel.
I think you would be better off rewriting it in OO Perl based on mod_perl2. You don't have to learn a whole new language(and the attendant kludges that one makes when writing an app in a language they are learning) and it will fast and stable. Plus, you can just transplant any neat little regexs and functions instead of reimplementing them. YMMV.
