  1. make aluminum foil burn on Fun With an Induction Cooktop? · · Score: 5, Interesting

that's what i have found so far. normally you cannot use aluminum on an induction cooktop, probably because a thick layer of aluminum is equally as conductive as the copper inductor in the cooktop, however a thin layer of aluminum can be brought to hover itself away from the cooktop and / or begin to glow if held in place. my cooktop took no damage from trying this but of course - don't try this at home

  2. suggestion for further research on Follow Up On Solar Neutrinos and Radioactive Decay · · Score: 1

I would love to see a correlation chart between space weather (x-ray, proton flux) and radioactive decay. far more precise measurements (decay rate per minute) may be required. I wonder when the solar influence is strongest: while the solar flare is developing within the sun, when it erupts on the surface, when the solar flare becomes visible on earth or even only when the proton-storm hit's the atmosphere. this should give a first guess to what is causing the effect and I would not even rule out some quantum effect that translates faster than the speed of light. maybe we are just witnessing the effects of somthing that might one day become subspace communication ;-)

Therefore I tried to removed all dispensable packages. I even considered replacing Ubuntu's init system with a plain startup script and gnome-session with a .xinitrc. And yes, I have done that a long time ago with RedHat.

Congratulations, ATI has just wasted another two months, trying to catch up with the competition, and ended up releasing a driver that does not even support AMD's x86_64 architecture.

Obviously the ATI developers are totally incompetent and I can only wonder how long AMD's management is going to tolerate this. At least I have learned my lesson and will make very sure not to buy any hardware from ATI again. Even if this means that I also have to buy a Intel processor.

Also I started to think about what would be needed for the german "Bundestrojaner" and compare it to Skype:
    - it is installed on a majority of systems
    - it is protected against decompilation / debuggers
    - it bypasses almost any firewall
    - it uses encryption for network traffic
    - it may send lots of data even when not making a call
    - it might have already been deployed by the NSA
    - eBay has a history of cooperating with federal agencies

Next these geniouses split their products into an expensive business and an affordable consumer line, ignoring the fact that many business users would also like to have features like a camera. Last but not least they have missed every opportunity to improve the core applictions like schedule, address book, notepad and todo list.
