I'm thinking a Hummer would be pretty devastating if equipped with armor, tire protection, and.... exploding stuff (imagine outward-blasting charges that detonate on impact). they don't limit you on how you can "attack" the opposition. Is it like demolition derby in a pit or demolition derby on a track? Also, is it real? They want your info and they offer no privacy policy. I'll bet that track has water and mud so an amphibious vehicle with the equivalent of armored fender skirts could be a real winner. Damn, i'd love to go see the show, but i'll bet it's expensive since they actually finance the "vehicles".
note: he DID say "A" bee sting, i know plenty of people who are allergic, got 1 sting, were treated and survived. So, really, what's the chances of dying from "A" bee sting? (not much unless you can't get treatment is the answer, my son) atta() ()f th(e) "()"
A friend of mine made an interesting observation concerning global warming. (I DO still believe we have an ozone hole causing the better part of it). He pointed out that the very nature of orbit means that object (unless altered by unexpected impact) will eventually crash into that object which it orbits (IANAPhysicist and neither is he so I'm sure there are exceptions) so spiraling closer to the sun (however slowly) could definitely contribute to global warming (on an exponential scale when graphed over time). I was curious if there were onboard video on the mother board or AGP or if he was going headless. So STFW for"Asus A7B266-D Motherboard Specs" and narrow further and further realising that "A7B266" is not out there. I head over to Asus's MB Section where I see that that model# seems to look correct but can't find a match. I'm assuming it has integrated n-force. Just thought it was a little odd to not be able to find this board, I'm sure if I searched harder I could find it at something like Pricewatch, but I wonder why it's not featured at Asus's site?
I'm not saying the physical aspect applies to everything, just that it will definitely keep retail alive. If Target/Wal-Mart/Whoever is staying in business selling the products that don't sell well online (i.e. clothes) they can further increase revenue by selling products that do (i.e. DVD). So, how can e-commerce possibly kill retail? BTW, my wife has bought quite a few clothes online (no, I wouldn't do it either) with excellent results.
How do you figure you can convert fossil fuel into methanol, or ANY other alchohol for that matter? Methanol is wood-alchohol. While i'm sure that methanol can be created in a lab using elements or compounds very unlike wood, I am also sure that petroleum has absolutely nothing to do with it. Even if you could it would be pointless. you can probably make WATER from crude oil, but why bother when there are WAY cheaper and easier methods? (Not to say that we have a need to synthesize water)
Considering the cheapness of methanol, i say we start making all fuel cells this way. considereing the inherent dangers of putting these things on planes being discussed, I say bann all laptop batteries from being carried into the passenger area. You can keep your batteries in your luggage, while your on the plane they need a standard for powering laptops via external sources. Heck, they can turn a profit by requiring you to buy time on that power outlet during flight to make up for the extra power consumption on the plane. But what do I know? I've never even been in an airplane:).
While my earlier post to the original article makes this statement redundant, it applies to this response. People still want to be able to touch/feel/try-on what they buy; not to mention group shopping trips.
Online record sales seem to be a godsend (at least for me). While I love digging in record warehouses (speaking vinyl here), the web is the best method for finding EXACTLY what you want and getting it in mint condition (if not return it). Just figure out how to get UK-US shipping costs down pls!:).
I must say I'm impressed with a lot of different automobile manufacturing sites, esp. Honda's, for example. They give you an in depth (typically no hype) look at the car from all angles letting you customize the car and see the net effect. Another good car site is Carmax's. The info is always very up to date, the price you get quoted IS the price, you can see the car, buy the car, have the car shipped from one carmax to another, etc. etc. I have never doubted the 'net's ability to be an excellent tool for sales. It's real downfall is the inability to "feel/hold" the product. However, if your clever about how you display and advertise your product, the web seems to be the best medium for buying products that are either unavailable locally or too expensive locally; or, as in Automobile sites, allows you to shop at home and go out more informed on what choices you may make.
umm, using this material would get VERY expensive, it seems.

This is a better idea (as if this were a good idea to begin with), however, you need to really go for the "it's really working" look. Try running the power and hdd LED leads into the tank (under the gravel) and into the submersed case. Try to keep the case as minimal as possible, preferably ALL plastic. There is all kinds of stuff in a computer that is toxic to fish (lube in CDROM, thermal grease, capacitors, rust, dust, etc.) You CANNOT put copper in the water. So, really, don't put a working computer in a stocked aquarium, that's animal cruelty.

Really? Seems like any PC manufactured within the last 5-7 years should be capable of playing both these games and many more.
umm, de-facto formats?!?! There are very few de-facto Formats. I'm defining de-facto as one that CAN extend into any platform as long as the associated "reader" is available (i.e..txt,.pdf, etc.)
At our local geek store, on the wall, is this running gag. This guy took an old case and filled it with cement (harder than you might think). Then he sets the 250lb beast on his front porch. He keeps a running log of movement and/or spottings of people trying to steal it. One time someone did steal it only to leave it in a ditch not 20 feet away. Later, he made a 350lb version of a working computer! He has detailed plans for doing this:). Personally, after driving by the place to see for myself, I can't imagine walking all the way across his yard, picking a computer off the porch, and walking back, in plain daylight with neighbors and all! But, no, the logs plainly show that people try this all the time. he should design a camera triggered by the case's movement to get the look on their faces when they try to pick it up >:).

Hell, i'd just like to know how to run electricity over fiber (i'm assuming it's fiber-optic).

Last I checked /. is News for Nerds AND Stuff that matters. .coms truning profits MATTERS.
