you are making assumptions. It was clear that soldiers killed around 500 armed somalians but it was not clear if soldiers killed any civilians. This does not happen in real life.
Civilians die.
Film itself was good, fighting scenes were realistic, but otherwise some things are done politically correct. Is that really something bad? probably not, you dont want people to pull things out of the contest, but at the same time, you cant call it more real than saving private ryan.
... everyone could see that movie had huge degree of political correctness. I mean, c'mon, you didnt see any civilians killed. Thats ridicilous, all those ppl running around, and not one civilian goes down in error... so much for making "saving private ryan a tv special"
;-)
as long as you understand that, movie is good & fun... but dont expect it to be real thing
... it will be the best thing that ever happened to desktop linux (in recent years). First of all, AOL is well known supporter of open source (mozilla, aol server, etc), then they know how to take over company and dont ruin it (netscape ruined themselves before they sold out anyway), such as nullsoft...
Why would they do it? First of all, forget about switching users to Linux, etc, etc...they are not stupid, they wont force users to change OS, c'mn, dont get overboard with the idea... what they want is alternative if MS decides to scrap AOL from XP... and slowly build their alternative choice so when the time come they have more weapons to battle MS with. Can you imagine AOL Linux + Office + AOL Internet dvd's in mail? sure not tomorrow, but in few years for sure... maybe linux will finally have something to fight MS with, that actually works in desktop enviroment for all users...
But if you think that apple is going to force anyone to use linux, that wont happen... that would be suicide for any service company...especially if 90% potential users use MS.
lol, exactly my opinion... BUT this is slashdot of course and article is about MSN... what else should you expect?
people tend to forget how the whole DSL industry works that way (pricing, dsl modem charges if you cancel, changing isp's). If anything, this article should be article about DSL & local telco's who misuse their powers.
I find it funny when one of the postsmentioned how msn didnt work with their hardware... LOL, its just ISP, it works the same way as every other ISP you can get...only difference is the backend they use, everything else is the same qwest setup
All anti-ms feelings aside, It only makes sense for them to do so.. basically it is ultimatetv+xbox... they will need to add larger hard drive to it and maybe more CPU and ram but they will be able to charge more for it as well... and believe it or not, if they keep the price under 500$-600$, it will even be to the benefit of consumers... why pay for 700$ replaytv, when you can get similar features plus gaming console... only makes sense for them... hell, even I might considered getting one as long as pvr features are good
Basically, your question is why cant software be developed to perfection?
Basic reason is that we always keep adding new features to it. It is impossible to stay on one set of features through product life. You simply have to add more and more and more... and you will never be able to test it properly. Not to perfection.
However, bigger issue lately is that companies are short on cash so they have to release software that is not ready to be released - software that has not been properly tested.
Example I... World War II Online game - absolutly bad piece of software, kept crashing, etc... after several patches, its one of the best multiplayer games around...
Example II. Mac OS X - first release did not have full support for all Mac hardware you could purchase (notably cdrw/dvd recorders)... they simly said we need to get it out and add this later
Most software that gets released actually deserves early beta status, which is why you dont see companies upgrading until at least 2 patches are released.
And even if you freeze your feature set, it cant last long... soon enough competition will have you scrambling to add more features and you wont have a year to properly test it... simply, I doubt there was ever a piece of software that was perfect and I doubt it will ever be... I for one cant wait for next patch for my router, OS, game or my favorite software
not really... now, if you compare it to cadillac... you might be more correct... they are all about experience, so even thought they dont have the best stuff, they manage to sell cars based on total experience
BMW and Mercedes-Benz are the top of the line, best you can get (except exotics) cars... comparing them to Apple is totally out of line... it has slower cpu, slower graphics card, slower memory, slower everything than top of the line PC... and its more expensive... now, it has its merits, but you cant compare it with BMW...sorry
As I can see, many ppl seem to have wrong info about rio riot... so here is some:
- It fits palm of your hand
- It has lithium ion battery for 10-12 hours of playback (charges 5 hours)
- includes fm tuner
- big screen (240x160)
- every real reviewer who saw it so far said it was the easiest to manage, including ipod
- ships with itunes & real jukebox... keep in mind, for ipod, you need to pay extra for Win software
- it plays mp3 and wma, no copy protection (sonicblue is known for that anyway)
- awesome headphones (for bundled hp)
- every reviewer (Cnet, forbes, techtv) said it looked super sleek and was nicely designed overal
USB only is a bit of a let down but people please, how many of you are going to upload 20 GB of mp3's every day?

right... but you never see american soldier killing civilian... its a miracle I say!
right... and those 300,000 ppl who died previously fell on their own kitchen knife?
