Have you seen the ad for IBM-Servers running Linux where the cops are running around with some head honcho trying to figure where the servers went and the IT/IS guy walks by. He says to them We replaces everthing with that one? Going to save us a bundle.
I was thinking on this one and came up with these.
One ad that would be two new companies side by side. Showing system being setup but Unix and Penguin showing at company A but Microsoft logos at company B. Kind of like the ad that showed two companes 5 years later for the business paper. As times run along you see calm quite at the Unix place expanding with happy people all calm but the M$ place with the light always on desheveled people going mad fighting to keep the company up at the other. Finaly the B company being taken over by A comapny and MS being kicked out the door like the Kiko ads kicking out big laser printers.
Or even simpley ad, "Who do you want to see rich? You or Bill?"
Or just two jars with pennies being drop in. An anouncer states simply you save money when your system and servers stay up. One is labled Unix/Linux and other is Windows. Coins only drop in the Unix and bills, IOU's, patch disk, etc drop in the other. With the tag line stating what do you want to do! Could also have a counter of days, months etc with the other ticking from 0 to 1 to 0 day up!
Or the better people in combat fatigues with worried look and speaking in a phone saying we are getting hammere here! We are under major attacked! We need those updates from them yesterday. We need help now! Our position and equipment are being over run! Panic strain faces etc. All of a sudden a guy walks up calm and cool. Taps Jim on the sholder and says dont worry we got the new Unix system in and the old window server are gone! You are saved! Crys of joy ring out!
They dont scare me but the marketing geeks do. Saw them hack a company apart with their stupidy once. Never again! I have only met one sales person but the rest were more problem then their worth.
Over the years I have see this office format work well.
1) Single small office big enough for two computer but one person normally but in emergency two. Non glaring light. Enough light to keep them from going blind and to read printouts. And cool to there liking. Also a small bookshelf. Decent chair and desk. 2) Non fancy cofference room that can take the whole team with out overflow problems and mutiple computer to allow hasing thing out. Include a white board projector whatever works. 3) A quite place just to let the mind rest. You cant keep reving it up all the time. A small garden does work wonders. There is one Anime studio in Japan that has a quite garden on the roof. Works wonders. 4) Use email for all normal traffic since it lets the recepiant answer when they can and keeps the question foccus. Phones when typing would be hard or impractical. Small mail box for dropping off picking up thing that cant be NETed around that is "outside" the office. 5) A place to crash. IE to get some sleep on long mightmare project. Nothing fancy. The small office would do. Still have my old airbed and pillow from one place I work at. Came in handy. There are always these insaine schedules and thing go wrong no matter how thing are layed out. I rather have a programmer that's on a roll or been working long hours just to get a few hour sleep then have them drive home and maybe never get there. 6) The head programmer may have a bigger office but is geared to small meeting of him/her and no more than two other people. Small table and two chairs and the normal std office. Good for quicky meeting. More then that size it cofference room!
If a team need open cubical to manage then there are major problems. IE poor orginization. Sorry contant instant communication just does not work. Everyond should know what to do and do it. If problems arise then the cofference room is the best place to handle it. Can handle from 2 to its design capasity. And in a pinch forms a spare programmers room or a different crash and burn room. Its funny but the Travel Channel has a report that people feel more "secure" not in open areas but more intimate areas. It was in spending money at Casino's but is appliable here also. Guess it the old survival skills of the mind gets split with the lower logic worring about dangers.
One last thing is a sign that leads into the programmers area stating the following:
Danger: Marketing Geek stay out! Tresspassers will be eaten!
I agree. Caught this at Geek.com and it has answered a lot of question on the letters!
Renewed online this month and saw the 29 dollar renual banner. Said cool! Basicaly went through the stuff untill I hit the final total. 48 dollars! For domain+Forward+1page. They had charged 29 for domain + 12 for Forwarding and 12 for 1 page! Last year it was 35 for all! Dumped the 1web page since I use forwarding but next year will dump them for another!
What is with these guys! Good legit prices with goos service will make you good money but this leaves a really bad tast in ones mouth!
PS: Any one know of a good place. No hosting but name and forwarding?:)
Excuse me but why would you? Thats not what this is about. I am not flaming or chastising but I consider this a grass roots dev kit for, in SetTop box terms, almost free. And this is cheep!
Its like the version for the PS1 to allow a person or usualy a group so inclined to take their ideas and put them into form. A lot of the PS1 Yarrow's were bought by small groups. Some projects actualy made it to being sold as a real game!
I dont blame them in locking certain items that really do not cover what this is all about. They have the right to put locks for both protecting there market and the people that develop games for sale. I think the orginal kit had that limit of only another Yarrow or what ever it was called could play it. Its more for a better term a "comunity" to trade ideas etc around. A place to try ideas.
If you want to do all including access the DVD then there is the "normal" development kit with base cost, license fees and all the hardware it takes to do it. Its just what do you want to do. For the price its dirt cheep for what you can do. Esp since it has a real OS!
Between Art Bell and Slashdot the net will crash soon! They both have a tendency to overload servers everywhere.:)
Art had this on his show about mid week. There are two more videos that one of the listeners sent in.
Basicaly it looks more like a ion airflow engine.
There was a Popular Science between 62 to around 66 that had on the cover a small capsule hanging under a multi-cell plate. I think it was an example of it doing traffic reports. The article cover the concept of Ion air flow. With the spikes on these "cell" generats an air flow. In space you replace the air with seisum or somthing else. Hey its been a few years since I read the article.;)
Nice effect but how much can it lift? How much energy to lift a pond? etc. Any damage to people riding in it?
The main thing is 30kv is enough to do damage { IE Death } if you mess up.
Also one of the nast little info-tainment air filters is using this effect to clean air and also simulate air movement with out a fan.
I agree! Now that we have (H)ot (P)ickeled (C)rawdad to much up our system! Pain raised to a new level.
Have fought too many HP printer with Security key etc or just by themselves trying to keep them working. Now they are adding Compact level of disaster to there! Sheech!
Wonder what Mr Bill gong to do since the two big produces of Pocket PC have merdge?;)
I wonder if he could build the door ride from Monsters Inc! Would be fun even with the hundred+ page waver forms just to ride { hang on for dear life } it! Wow!:)
Bet his insurance man has either passed out or figuring this poor guys next mega buck premium!
If I read the spects right does the DOM offer the ability to drop the HD?:) With no noise for that and a hack adapter to pop in lets say 1/2 gig or even 1 GB of Flash would be one super quite little box!
This is getting closer to the next level of PC. IE A brick you can program to drop on a problem that can do things! That does not cost both by it and the tools to get it to work.
There are a lot of situation where quite, simple all in one excede fast, noise and big.
Basicaly the water tank will work but basically you stick the engine far in the back. Look at 2001 Discovery ship the engine is way in the back. Also with a pile generating juce it can also be used to create a field around the ship.
The real problem is not when you are out there but just getting up there when you want to for a cheep price.
An old statement goes like this:
When you get to orbit you are half way to everwhere.
After getting a few computer past Class A & B over the years you can have the most perfect shielded case. Pass class B with a wide margen. Insert even just a headphone into the CD drve and fail like crazy! Unless you drop the thing in a copper grounded box with full shielding on power etc it a tough to shield one of these units.
To me the "coolest" computer is one that you cant hear and is fast enough for what you want to do with it.
Mostly you will affect the am band but since a computer generates signals from a few herts to ghz basically any thing is subjective to it output.
Yes you get very long running time on non-blacklit LCD since a LCD is, in effect, a capactor in designed IE just potential no real current draw but with out the right light hitting it, it might as well be off as in the case of GBA
Be nice to see how OLED will turn out.
Digital camera are running into a major roadblock on power. Still cant beleve they are making 1.8 AMP hour AA battries! Sheech short one of those and get on heck of an explosion!
The micro fuel cells are around 10% efficient but 100 time more efficent thatn a standard chemical power cell.
There is a tangle Quantum effect that basicaly locks two particles together. Was proven just a few weeks about. So shake one partitle shakes the other. Not much futher in creating instant radio from that.
But realise they have the distro rights in other places. IE if you like his works try his new DVD colector edition! Yes they are region 2 but man they are outstanding! Two disk and the best extras! The Kiki actualy has the Disney English track not the previous English one.
Intersting that Disney does not have Totoro and Graveyard.
(1) be nice to get rid of these CRT we are stuck with after their last great brainstorm. Just use houses and other structures to store instead of lanfills is not a good idea fokes!
(2) We must be near an election.
(3) They have no idea how the real world works.
(4) Like rebates how many people store cans and recycle them?
(5) If you want to be a trillionare just figure out a way to recycle this junk since most of it it too dated or broken to reuse.
(6) White box computer are easer to recycle since there are make out of generic parts. The lame brain ones like Dell and Gateway have too many special parts to even attempt to recycle except strip for generic parts.
(7) This is from a state now trying to get out of contracts for over price power from last year mess.
(8) Recycling of newspaper was too good creating a glut of recycle material to need.
(9) Wish Ink-Jet printer for consumer were like the bigger one where you just fill single tanks of ink than tossing half empty carts.
Instead of an election year "lets look like we are doing somthing to get back in" I wish they would really try to do somthing! The deposit on a item or it 90% valuable like in a car makes sense to recycle. Also engeer it to be pull apart makes sense also. But fees to buy and fees to recycle wont fly. Would not mind a fee at buying but fees to recycle will end ul just like it is now. Need an insentive for people to keep this river flowing.
Hum. Now along with tobaco products being sold at the local tribal gaming places cheeper, they can sell electronic products also.
Its time may have come.
There is a need for a simple PC box that can be customised for simple tasks. Or change when thing change. About the size of a VCR would be nice. Basicaly 15 x 12 x 3~5 inches would do.
I have clients that need the cost of a desktop PC but the size of a laptop with no screen. Others would like a small personnel server for MP3 or to make their own Disk Recorder. Nitch markets at best but the whole industry is reaching saturation on the current box concept. There are only so many games and do you realy need a 2.2gh to run your word processor? Or have a unit that can heat a room. Or If one of these small things die would be easy to replace and could use the others as a spare. And I wont mention California and power!
For example. About 2 months ago I built up a rental computer for a client that only wanted it for a month for internet access. A new system would have been over kill. Went to my boneyard and gutted a old Pizza Box AT case. Mounted a Shuttle 661 BX MB with a Celeron 433, 1.2 gb HD, 24x CD rom and a ATX PS upside down in the same mount's of the orginal PS. Darn thing rand and was very cool since the PS had a better grab on removing the hot air from the case.
After that sucess desided to dive back in the boneyard and came up with a old 1985 Tape drive case, adding in a working 200mhz cirix GX mb with a 3/4 LAN card and a 20GB HD running W98. I will using it play MP3 music to my stereo. Will be controled over my local LAN via web pages.
Could have gone with a Flex or Micro system but even where I am its hard to find a place that sell them localy! Like the size of the FIC unit but a bit much.
Have seen all of these modules, slider since the early 1970! But I think its time to distill the best and make it go this time.
At the official ST site they have switch to a different eps for this week.
Have you seen the ad for IBM-Servers running Linux where the cops are running around with some head honcho trying to figure where the servers went and the IT/IS guy walks by. He says to them We replaces everthing with that one? Going to save us a bundle.

Ad ideas free to use.
Just change the word in their noize from Unix to Microsoft and it fits them!
Dident they have something on athems and stuff in Stalone's Demolition Man? I think a whold radio channel and somthing about Taco Bell?
:)
Well it Wed and need a good chuckle.
