Kill-A-Watt monitors electric usage for 1 device or one powerstrip. $30 http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/7657/

The Energy Detective (TED) monitors the entire house. $140 http://www.theenergydetective.com/

I have both of the above. I use Kill-A-Watt for easy analysis of a device and TED for monitoring the turning on/off of major appliances. I also switch the wiring of TED to my generator to monitor it and make sure I don't go over desired load.

Watt's Up Pro is like Kill-A-Watt is for 1 device or one powerstrip but has additional features similar to TED. $120 http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/7acf/

I have a Nokia 9500 that I love and use all the time. It comes in very handy to be able to manage our servers wherever I am.

Unfortunately, for SSH, the keyboard does not have a | "pipe" key so it makes it very hard to issue certain sequences of commands. Anybody know a workaround?

I also love the landscape screen and high resolution.

Am I reading correctly from your post that using 6x energy to make ethanol is worthwile then because it is renewable? So you are saying we should eat up fossil fuels even faster (6x faster) in order to make ethanol? That's doesn't make sense. If you are saying we should use some other energy source like sunlight to make ethanol, then that doesn't make much sense either because why not just use the energy created by the sunlight instead of wasting 80% of the captured energy in the creation of ethanol?

You have to register an agent for copyright infringement and accept email communication as adequate notification because according to the U.S Copyright Office at http://www.loc.gov/copyright/onlinesp/, the following is what you have to do in order to limit service provider liability:

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act, signed into law on October 28, 1998, amended the copyright law to provide limitations for service provider liability relating to material online. New subsection 512(c) of the copyright law provides limitations on service provider liability with respect to information residing, at direction of a user, on a system or network that the service provider controls or operates, if the service provider has designated an agent for notification of claimed infringement by providing contact information to the Copyright Office and through the service provider's publicly accessible web site.

NOTE: Be sure to follow the exact procedures specified in subsection 512(c):

    (3) Elements of notification.

    (A) To be effective under this subsection, a notification of claimed infringement must be a written communication provided to the designated agent of a service provider that includes substantially the following:

    (i) A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

(ii) Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.

(iii) Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material.

(iv) Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.

    (v) A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

(vi) A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

(B)(i) Subject to clause (ii), a notification from a copyright owner or from a person authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner that fails to comply substantially with the provisions of subparagraph (A) shall not be considered under paragraph (1)(A) in determining whether a service provider has actual knowledge or is aware of facts or circumstances from which infringing activity is apparent.

(ii) In a case in which the notification that is provided to the service provider's designated agent fails to comply substantially with all the provisions of subparagraph (A) but substantially complies with clauses (ii), (iii), and (iv) of subparagraph (A), clause (i) of this subparagraph applies only if the service provider promptly attempts to contact the person making the notification or takes other reasonable steps to assist in the receipt of notification that substantially complies with all the provisions of subparagraph (A)."

I love my Nokia 9500. I believe it comes close to what you describe. It is a little big for a phone, but I view it as a PDA, that gives me internet access anywhere I am, with a built in phone. Not the other way around. It is a bit pricey at $799.99 (retail) but I believe it is worth it in order to have an all-in-one device that lets me keep in contact with my servers (via full web or ssh access) no matter the time of day or location. A US version of the phone became available 3 weeks ago via Nokia USA but a European version has been imported into the US for the past 6 months. You can get the European version for about $150 less than the US verson but keep in mind that you won't have warranty support via Nokia USA and Nokia UK (or other European service centers) won't be able to fix your phone because they do not have export licenses to ship them back to you in the US.
