You know what I'd be interested in someone writing? (Not interested enough to pay for though.)
An app (Linux, Windows, whateverOS) that records what the window is that is currently being used. Then at the end of the day you can see:
98.2%: Firefox
1.6%: PSI
0.2%: Xterm
I suspect that people don't switch to Linux because they think they use apps that don't exist on Linux more frequently than they do.
If anyone does it, let me know. Contact via my website.
I think that blocking incoming traffic is by far the most important thing on Windows boxes. We don't want another Code Red/Nimda.
Who here, honestly blocks outgoing traffic too on their home networks? I could, but I don't bother. Why? I run a tight enough ship to know that there won't be weird traffic going out, and I can't be bothered with the extra admin needed to keep everything happy and working.
No, you nutter. What it's saying is, is that even if you configured your DNS correctly, all of the parent DNS servers used in the process of resolving your domain names have to be correctly configured too. Imagine you own foo.com. Your DNS server is OK, but if the.com servers aren't, I can just make the.com servers pass requests for foo.com to my DNS servers, and then return whatever values I want. It's all a big pyramid.
;; reply from unexpected source: 69.72.142.35#53, expected 205.247.218.251#53 ;; Warning: ID mismatch: expected ID 14394, got 3338 CNAME fbi.edgesuite.net. from server ns4.vericenter.com in 601 ms.
Wonder what's going on there? Someone already trying it?
"The fbi.gov domain is served by two machines called dns.sprintip.com and dns2.sprintip.com. A client trying to resolve www.fbi.gov will first have to get to sprintip.com to find the FBI nameservers. The sprintip.com domain is in turn served by three machines named reston-ns[123].telemail.net. Of these machines, reston-ns2.telemail.net is running an old nameserver (BIND8.2.2-p5), with nine different known exploits against it (namely, tsig, libbind, negcache, sigrec, DoS_multi, srv, zxfr, infoleak and sigdiv0 exploits). Having compromised reston-ns2 using a standard crack tool available on the web, an attacker can divert a query for dns.sprintip.com to a malicious nameserver, which can then divert the subsequent query for www.fbi.gov to any other address, hijacking the FBI's web site and services."
I bet that's not its real version. I configure my DNS servers to return funny values. (Sometimes. If I remember. And can be bothered.)
A computer virus that followed Darwinian evolution (as I understand it) would make copies of itself, each with a small change, and execute it. Eventually, (infinite monkeys at infinite typewriters) it will create a better virus. Repeat infinite times.
free for opensource community implementing and not to Microsoft.
GPL v4: Free for Operating Systems that have the source code made publically available to all.
Moglen, Stallman, you listening? I'm available for consulting work. 2000 of your "US dollars" per day. Oh, and a day is 5 of your so-called "Earth hours". And you buy lunch.
I suppose the problem is the line between quality items, and filling the front page. You have to give the users something to discuss between major news items.
But seriously - a new laptop.
Gaaad. What is this, Digg? That site pisses me off with it's constant inane drivel about Apple, Google, etc. And here, a new laptop. Wow. That's such news.
Mod me down. I really couldn't give a shit.
More to the point, to people really think about the word terror? Terror is stark, absolute, disabling fear. Like a man rushing at you with a knife while you're in a dead-end corner with no way to defend yourself.
When was the last time you experienced it. I don't think I've ever experienced it. And I certainly don't worry about a few little religious extremists with bombs. Shiit. I thank the IRA for desensitising the UK from the fear of bombs - if we'd got in a flap everytime innocent people were blown up, we'd never have got anything done in the last 30 years.
For every company with a name like "Oracle", "google" and "Red Hat", there were 10 companies who went bust, and who just happened to have names like "Monkeybrains", etc.
Nothing to do with names.
Tell them you didn't vote for the bastard and they'll be way friendlier.
Nah, half you fuckers did. We just don't believe you when you say that. But at least it shows a vague knowledge that he's not well liked in the world.
Do the Canadian thing. I can't tell the difference between the accents.
PERFORM? PATRIOT? I'm sure that people think up the acronyms, and then try to find words that fit. What a bunch of arse.
Eyeballs, no. But they could grow you a new ear on the back of a rat.
Is it just a subsbitution ciper with the letters "smithcode" being the first ones?

Because they don't like it when they see me wanking...
Guaranteed.
Yes, but why are they getting results from 69.72.142.35 before getting the correct one?
Whois shows it's Pegasus Web Technologies, in Parsippany, NJ.

I think you meant 0.0.0.0/0. Although a /0 mask would indeed cover everything, it just looks "wrong".
Yep, that's the one. Damnnit.
Got modded troll by non-Fark readers too.
Linux: Maybe useful against insurgents.
(Did I get it right?)
