    they (London and New York) are far enough apart so that if there were a major disaster in either city we could continue serving web pages from the other location.

    I wonder if they'll ever shake their heads and say - how did we ever think we could put all our eggs in those two high-profile terrorist target cities. I'll set up a mirror for them on my ADSL line.

    I don't think it's the distro du jour effect. Not for me anyway. Gentoo met all my important criteria in a single distro.
    • No need to boot off a CD to upgrade the distro
    • No need to download RPMs/packages manually
    • Wide choice of packages
    • Modern, and up to date
    • One command install
    • Packages compiled with exactly the right options for my systems.
    • Stable and secure.
    • Lots of archs supported.

    I've often thought that Apache could do similar things. If after there was a big security hole found in Apache, they put out a non-vulnerable version that broke IE browsing, but didn't affect Firefox, it could force a lot of people over. Of course, it would have to be done carefully like other companies do it - The Opera/MSN debarcle so people didn't notice.

    And what is this about?:

    I'm still waiting for my site, Calum to get indexed. The bots come regularly, but nothing in there. If people could just paste the following link onto their pages, Calum, I'm sure everything would be right with Calum and Google. I'm sure Google doesn't hate Calum, and that there is just some misunderstanding.

    I think what would be even weirder is if the revs stayed the same from 20-100mph. Continuously Variable transmission. It would be good though - set the engine revs for efficiency, or for power.

    FTFA: The system under construction at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre - part of Edinburgh University, UK - will use Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chips instead of conventional microprocessors.

    Has any one noticed that when Scotland do well, we say that they are from the UK/GB. But if they did something bad, it would be "Edinburgh University, Scotland". e.g.:
    Coulthard is winning! This British driver is .....
    Coulthard has come last, and what a shame it is for this Scottish driver...
