One of the reasons I am the 'compu-whiz' I am today is due to early exposure to computers. I broke them. I deleted things and modified things you weren't supposed to touch. I learned the hard way.
Spot on. It gives you an insight into things. I simply imersed myself in computers for 2 years - non stop - every day, night, installing, fiddling, breaking. I've done rm / -rf - I've done echo foo >/dev/kmem - I've tried all kinds of things. I've installed a box with deliberately weak security to let it get hacked, and then tried to diagnose what the hackers did. It's the best way. Mekkab - if I start a company, you can be an employee.
" Whiny socialists across Europe bemoan the fact nobody cares what they think
More dirty hippies. I've advocated exiling our misanthropes for a while. Europe seems hippie friendly and ours whine incessantly about how much they hate the US, so why not give them a free ride over there. They could finally get around to building that socialist, agrarian utopia they all want.
That is, if they're not too stoned."
Like people in the US don't get stoned? So does a socialist, agrarian utopia sound so bad then? I doubt he's ever been to Europe. And if he did, he spent the whole time moaning that the food/people were different.
Paxman calling John Reid an attack dog was rather amusing. He is very tenacious. And doesn't let weasley politicians get around things. In fact, I imagine that his large height and intellect make him rather oppressive.
I've always thought that writing a book collaboratively is an interesting idea. It's just an extension of the childhood game where you write a word on a piece of paper, fold it over, and pass it along.
However, I always thought about a fictional book.
Does this 20% time come out of the normal 40hr/week thing (and for that matter, do these engineers work 40/week or are they doing 100/week and get 20% time out of that)?
I assume it's one day a week. And it's "their own projects", so I assume Google don't own them. It's to keep their creative minds bubbling away.
Mind you, that's an awful lot of assumptions I've just made.
If they are doing it with URL overflows, look for url requests that are over, say 80 characters, and throw them away.
I looked into mod_security for apache and it lets you return 500 errors for regex URL patterns, or content. I'm sure it would let you ignore those URLs too.
Hello Tim, long time, no speak.
I understand what CSS does - and why it is beneficial. My question was what is (if there is one) the killer reason for CSS2? "Aural style sheets?" "Several internationalization features, including list numbering styles, support for bidirectional text, and support for language-sensitive quotation marks?" Not for me.
I went to http://www.nhtcu.org/, and all I see is a blank page. After a while, I decided to view the source. Damn Shockwave, without even a little "Skip Intro" link.
I'm going to eat some peanuts.
From TFA: "CSS 2.0 has a few nice features, but realistically, I don't think it being in there makes much difference either way," said a Windows developer, who requested anonymity.
What is there in CSS2 that is really needed/useful then? I am a pretty pitiful HTML coder (as you can witness on my website), so I need an expert to explain to me.:)
Why not a Google Knoppix type CD that simply fires up an X session to an X server located in the datacentre? Then install all apps on that, and all data is remote, and backed up.
I think the creator of Bit Torrent should explicitly say in the licence that it's not allowed to be used for media distribution. Let the *AA make their own distribution network, after they've been having a go at the existing ones so much.
Well, at least you accept that one. Look back in your history for lots of examples of affecting other countries for your own ends - overthrowing governments, supplying terrorists with weapons to attack other countries, or supplying satellite info to Saddam Hussein are just a few examples.
And that N. Ireland thing really bugs me. Get out already.
Uhuh. So what country are you from? I'm sure that your country has/is making mistakes. At least we have learnt that you can't go looting a country, and not accept the consequences afterwards.
You can't beat the good old BBC. They even have pages in many different languages. And because they don't rely on advertising, they don't have to suckle on the corporate teat. Get your (pretty much) unbaised news here.

Hmm - seems OK.

Is there a ulimit equivalent for Win32?
Just as an after thought, why don't people run public Windows servers and allow people to login, like Unix shell servers?
They don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Yes :) I want to know why people want IE to support CSS2! Why aren't they happy with CSS1? :)
At least the AC gets it

It's probably because you're on a very fast connection, and the whole pages hits your browser before it renders.

My word. You really have to put a smiley face at the end so people know you are making a joke, don't you?
:)
Oh - wait -
I know. I couldn't care less though. Server = remote thing. Client = local thing. Client connects to server to gain access to remote resources.
Microsoft said that women will only be able to use a computer with a male family figure around to chaperone them.

I don't think that terraforming Mars would help here.
