Yeah, I know it's not free, but you get what you pay for, right? http://www.newsguy.com. I just renewed for a second year this morning. Excellent service and support.
Actually, my vote is going to the only one with brains in this campaign: Ralph Nader. It's an outrage he is being excluded by the ridiculous rules of the debate committees. Our political system makes me want to puke some times. I wouldn't vote for GWB, btw, if you shot me in the head. F him and his entire family. He dumber than Dan Quayle could ever try to be....
Like this is news. Why should it take more than two years to come out with V5 of Mozilla? Please. IE is miles ahead of Netscape now. I can't wean myself off of 4.7x, but IE 5 is pretty killer, especially on Macs. Once I cen figure out how to configure it correctly, buh-bye Netscape. I've tried some of the Mozilla builds. It sucks BAD. The interface is shit. It's still buggy. Frankly, I consider Mozilla to be dead in the water. This isn't exactly big news. Netscape has been floating like an old tire in a scum pond for two years. This is too bad. What a cool product this used to be... = (
This is a great idea. Time to fight back against the mainstream bullshit we have to deal with every day. No more bending over for the trends that are forced on pop culture. Down with Britney. Down with Boy Bands. Down with Pre-fabricated hits.
...is enough reason to see this movie. She might as well be naked! MMMMM MMMMM!! Seriously, though. I downloaded the trailer and have seen the coming attractions in the theater. Looks to be one hell of a movie!!
I hear ya on that. I am going to SF next week. My boss just aske me if I could change my schedule b/c our web site launch keeps getting pushed back. Sorry. No can do.
I am not bringing a laptop. I am leaving my cell at HOME. And I won't be checking in with anyone. If it's really urgent, they can call me. The last thing I want to think about on vacation is work... = )
I am really happy to see this. The CPU wars have been out of hand for years, with miniscule and meaningless speed bumps on a 3 month schedule since at least 96. As a consumer, I'd prefer this alternative method, too. Bump up the speed every six months instead. And make it somewhere between 100 and 250 MHz. More if you can. If it's going to be 25Mhz or 50MHz, why bother?
Now, if Motorola and IBM would just get off their ases and start producing faster G3/G4 chips, that would be a bonus. Shit, when was the last speed bump for Macs? Last November, I think... *sigh*
I am THERE! Sure, it's a few years away. But imagine that, after waiting since I was a little boy looking in the back of cominc books, to finally get those x-ray goggles. Only they will actually be my own eyes! yee haw!! 8 )
Every time I read of a story like this, I feel sick. Literally. Just another reason we should be using alternative energy sources and all ships should be required to have double hulls *and Linux). This is the 21st century. Why is everything still so backwards?
As a species, we are such failures in protecting our own planet...
Can't have the little devil guy (cute as he may be) because we have too many religious whackos here in the US. The Mac would be banned in the South. Steve Jobs would be branded a heathen. They'd probably burn all copies of OS X, thinking it's the third sign of Satan.
Next thing you know, the Southern Baptist Convention would seek to have all Mac users become subservient to their Windows-using counterparts.
I see. So, simply because you could write a program that could fuck up a few programs means you deserve to be locked up with murderers, rapists, and drug dealers? Yeah, I see the logic in that one. It's called Republican Stupidity. The Governor of PA is an asshole. You can tell him I said that.
This is truly unbelievable. The sad thing is that you could be convicted of raping a woman and do less time than if you wrote a virus. What ever happened to common sense in this country?
Florida is probably the LASt place on Earth I'd live. Mumbai or Bangladesh is slightly more appealing. Hurricanes. Fires. Strip malls up the ass. Lots of bimbos with implants and bad American cars. LOTS of older people (who shouldn't be on the road, but they are...). I think the white trash ratio in Florida is higher than anywhere else.
One can only pray for a monstrous tsunami to wipe out that state.
Seems the majority of you know the real deal with that place. Funny how the BBC story is such a fluff piece. Makes one laugh like a hyena when one knows what that country is actually about.
You're lucky if you can even get a PHONE to connect outside that country. I've seen better infrastructure among beavers. You think I'm kidding? I'm not.
I was there for a week a couple of years ago, and was amazed at how bad the phone lines (among a million other things) were. God help us if we had an emergency in that God-forsaken country. I mean no ill will towards Indians, but the country is in wretched state. The last thing they should be worried about are internet kiosks. How about cleaning the air and water first? Oh, and pay attention to the condition of India's rail system. Yeah, it's the largest in the world - and probably the WORST in terms of safety, modernization and.... well, you get the point.
Well, I am now into round 2 with this wonderful partnership. Last year, I ordered DSL for our office, since we got a kick-ass deal. Ordered in August, finally got the installation in December. The problems were numerous, and it's happening all over again. Back and forth, they blamed each other for not doing comething correctly. It was usually BA screwing up (a telco screwing up??? Nah!). They didn't install the loop, they didn't finish the loop, blah blah blah.
Fast forward to last week, we were scheduled to have the DSL installation complete for a second office in the same town. In fact, Covad confirmeed TWICE last week that they would deliver the router on Friday between 12 and 5. No one showed. And *no one* called to fill us in. It was nice having people wait on a holiday Friday afternoon for nothing... I call today, and "supposedly" Bell Atlantic didn't finish/install the loop (again). I called an hour ago, explained, and am now waiting for some dude to get back to me (told me he'd call in 30 minutes). I'm not expecting to hear from him until this afternoon. I know better by now. Keep in mind that we were informed TWO weeks ago that BA had done everything. Incredible.
I really wish BA would some day get their act together. I have never witnessed so much incompetence. My dad is a manager for BA and tells me horror story after horror story about how stupid these people really are. The fact is that people have been complaining in DROVES for well over a year about BA's DSL service and nothing seems to change. Don't expect it to now.....
Perhaps what we are witnessing is the manifestation of Bill Gates' geekness, plan to dominate the world with crappy software and his secret sexual infatuation with Mr. Bigglesworth!! I'll bet any of you that by the end of this year, that new island looks like a Giant Bill Gates Head (tm). Sad thing is, he'll point his evil laser at Washington and he'll zap himself in the ass because of a security worm hole in Outlook. Then his stock will drop 3 points.
I don't know. My take was that the multiplayer (i.e. online) part of it is what's persistent, in that there is some "master" server that maintains this universe. I could be wrong, though.
These guys were the one that pretty much started this "panic" by stating the "no more port" part, but completely failing to actually ASK developers who do the ports whether or not this is a problem. Mark Adams, head of Westlake Interactive, who ported UT for Mac, among others, said this really isn't an issue with them. They've ported a bunch of D3D games like TR3 and the Sims. It would be nice if the guys who break the news do their homework. It would have saved a lot of the doom and gloom talk.
You are so full of shit. I've NEVER played a $300 guitar that has even come close to the one I paid $1800 for. And that goes for any guitar over $1,000. And who are you to say this has something to do with how much money they have, spend, and make? THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE!
Go ahead and be a baby. Throw away your CDs. I am really blown away by everyone trying to justify this. What if you were to do the same with software? Don't give me this bullshit that you always try s/w before you buy it. I lurked in Warez rooms for YEARS and know damn well that argument is a load of bull. Are you going to sit there and tell me with a straight face that 375,000 are "evaluating" Metallica's songs? Yeah, and I have a tropical island to sell you for $5. If you happen to have seen any of the specials on eMpTyV about MP3s, you'll see college students openly admitting they are pirating the music.
You can blame Metallica for your "low wage job." Bitch all you want. Just remember that these are the same guys who were practically homeless for two years because all they wanted to do was play in a band. Yeah, I feel really sorry for you....
Sorry folks, the mass justifcation of MP3s has gone way overboard. I agree that some people do actually use Napster to check out albums (I wouldn't have bought the most recent Pantera without it, unless I had borrowed the CD). But 99% of Napster's users don't do that.
Yeah, I know it's not free, but you get what you pay for, right? http://www.newsguy.com. I just renewed for a second year this morning. Excellent service and support.

You're right about that. But the war on drugs is a whole other discussion.....

You could've saved yourselves a lot of money and got a nice Beowolf cluster of green iMacs..... You rich guys like to go overboard, don't ya? ;-)
How cheap?

DEAR GOD, THANK YOU! I was not aware of that. I can finally, once and for all, filter out the stupid Star Wars banter in here. Ahhhhhhhhh..........
LOL!!!! There he is!!! I thought you'd appear.....
