Without a WYSIWYG document editor Linux is in big trouble. I predict that Solaris will slowly steal Linux's market share away. If you disagree with me then you are wrong. Look at it this way: What advantage does Linux have over Solaris?? None, they are both free Unix. What advantage does Solaris have over Linux?? A billion dollar company that does developmment and a free Office clone.
I'll just buy up everyone's "obsolete" TVs for pennies on the dollar and then fix and sell them as new. Even a twenty year old 8051 can do bitwise xor in real time. So this is a "good thing". Good for those of us who aren't morons anyway.
If you don't like the conditions that come along with the cd you buy then DON'T BUY IT. Record companies hold the copyrights to their music so they can do whatever they want with it. If you feel that these restrictions are too harsh then you have no right to violate them. Researchers at MIT have already moved on to more advanced technology. With cascading, the laser accelerates the nanodes in the visible spectrum to get its "beam" effect. Obviously, this is a huge drawback because of the excess power consumption wasted on acceleration.
Professor Warton, whom I work for, has implemented a prototype "Quantum Tripoly" laser. "Tri" because it uses three quarks rather than one and "poly" because it's basically 3^3=27 quantum cascade lasers in one. And there's no acceleration downside that I mentioned above, no waste, just laser goodness.
The future isn't cascading, so why is Lucent still working on this dead-end technology?? Anyone with a PhD in physics care to comment??
