  1. How many times have I read about this on Escapist? on Indie Game Developers See Big Opportunity · · Score: 1

The writers there have been blathering on and on about it for as long as I've been reading it. I'm too lazy to find the link to the specific article but it was one the ones about long rants about a hit driven industry the gaming has become and unlike other mediums where indie persists and is partially funded by the hits making it more appealing to a greater number and occasionally people filter in to the mainstream. There was also the article at wired a while back about the long tail.

This is a very basic social psychology term. If your curious and want a better definiton just look it up on google. You'll also be able to find out about it in text books. Basically, the more people you have working on something the more that people feel that they need to do less of that worko because theres more people working on it. It has a lot to do with how people percieve their envioirment. Theres been numerous studies and the like. It has less to do with trimming the fat and a whole other bunch of cliches. Group effort is difficult to perceive as an individual. People who are good at seeing what a group of people can do make much better bosses and leaders. "We're following the trend in desktop PCs, where they've all switched to one-year warranties," said Stephen DiFranco, vice president of marketing at Maxtor. "This should have no effect on consumers because we hardly ever get returns in the second or third year and it frees up cash that we have to reserve to cover the warranties." i got it here

I know its their statement and I should probably question everything, but it does make sense.

the reason they want to reduce the warrantee is that their liability ie insurance will go down too. with 3 year warrantee's a huge chunk of their money has to sit in the bank just in case. so by getting rid of the warrantee they essentially can free up cash for some more money making drive producing.

defiantly, being that 1-click is so advanced needing only half of the resources of 2-click. the whole thing is probably a buisness move, if amazon.com can slow down sales on barnes&nobles...they might as well give it a shot. Who knows it might be cheaper to litigate than advertise. Plus then theres all this free press like we're giving here.
