You have been going to the same bar for several years. The service isn't the fastest, but it's filled with scenesters, and you think that it makes you look cool by association. You have a certain loyalty because they don't kick your ass at this bar (like all those mean sports bars).
If you walk into this bar one day and pay the normal price for a drink, but get a warm glass of piss..being the pseudo-intelligent, pretentious scenester with communist leanings that you are, you will drink it anyway, and comment on the pleasant saltiness.
The next day when you go into the bar, plop your money on the counter and get your Zima, you are going to be pretty fucking happy.
What a fucking moron. Welcome to the world of the typical Apple user. They want so much for their hardware to even come within a mile of what your average PC can do today that it becomes true in their minds.
Go pay $79 for a dot rev upgrade like all the other Mac losers. And I thought MS OS's were overpriced.
You should be jumping at the chance to throw your cash at mac zealot christ stevie boy. There is no objective reason to use a Mac. The only reason Apple is still in business today is because they cater to the "Lets be different just like all the different people" crowd and the horribly horribly ignorant.
Messenger has published their protocol specs. Microsoft has made no attempts to block people trying to use non MS clients on their network. For all they do wrong, this is one they they are doing right.
I would be more wary about what NYT is doing with my personal information that they required for me to read their articles than whatever info Joe User is able to glean from my personal web site.
The $5000 you "save" on the software will be quickly lost in the time that it takes to render scenes on Apple hardware.
Anyone else notice that the specs require a 500mhz P3 and an 800hmz g4? Kind of an inverse mhz myth thing goin on there eh?
Ill take prettier graphics (DX8 and up) over portability (OGL) any day.
Macs are not gaming machines. If you want to game on your PC, you are really cheating yourself by not owning a Windows box. Im not trying to slam macs or mac users...its just a fact that fast hardware + Windows = a better gaming rig.
When you are prompted to reboot while using a third party installer, you might want to blame the company that created the application you are installing. It is rarely *really* neccesary to reboot after installing new drivers or applications. I seem to recall loading up drivers for my sound and video cards back on WIN2k with no reboot at all...just instant functionality.
Clearly, Apply innovated this idea.
I've seen Steve Jobs leave better technology in the toilet after 3 bran muffins and a liter of coffee. Still got the evidence in my freezer to prove it.
I don't have a universal digital ID now, and I honestly don't really feel a need for one. What is the real purpose? To keep absent minded people from having to remember more than one password? Thanks...Ill pass. Given all the political and privacy BS that is coming about...it just seems like more trouble than it's worth.
Let's stop riding the capitalist/communist fence here.
Companies don't innovate anything, they provide resources for individuals in their employ to innovate with. The people who "innovated" Direct3d just happened to work at a different company to start with.
Whether you foster innovation in a creative hippie commune type environment, or buy it up, what difference does it make? Everyone is selling it anyway.
Whats this? No good web clustering services available? Oh well..back in the niche box you go. Wake me up when apple becomes a viable alternative above the small business level.
This is not true of Windows Update. Windows Update uses a signed activex control to download and install software updates. While the security of this solution could potentially have holes poked in it (including user stupidity allowing a non signed control to run)...it is no less secure than many other update methods and is most certainly far more secure than what apple current implements.
The creators of this clip (lickmysweaty.com) had to remove it from their site because Apple, in their "See no Evil, Hear No Evil" M.O. sent them a C & D letter. Apparently, Apple is unfamiliar with parody and freedom of speech.
Commercial fascism at it's best can be found right in Cupertino apparently...too bad they don't send C & D letters to people that can afford to defend themselves.
"No, Schmuck. They work faster period."
Bullshit.
Lets see the benchmarks. Hell, show me something that isn't comparing the performance of a highly targeted, niche application or a Photoshop unsharp mask.
Apple and it's partners do not publish objective benchmarks for a reason. The only thing that this benchmark tells me is that Xinet doesn't know how to optimize their applications for anything other than Mac OS.
The analogy for windows users of this software.

I get my morning coffee every day from a coffee shop down at the corner. The coffee shop owner sells his store to another company who only serves coffe in cups that are made from recycled cow dung. Do I try the new poop drink or do I just go a couple extra blocks out of my way to get some normal (yet slightly different than what I am used to) coffee served in a poop-free cup?
WMP and Realplayer both provide high quality without the annoying nag screen. Im not trying to say that it doesnt do what it was designed to do, or that it doesn't work well for some people.
What I am saying is that for *me*, the annoyances of having it installed do not outweigh the minimal benefit. If Apple cared about their market for Quicktime they would spend more time optimizing their software than they apparently spend playing with market statistics.
...In your mind anyway.

Delusions of grandure.

Simply linking to the source code, like they are could get them into trouble, could it not?

"My guess is they are tempting current shake users to make the "switch" Yeah...all 200 of em.
Mac is destroying PC how? Got some benchmarks? ...and I dont mean photoshop running unsharp mask.

4-20 seconds on a PC. Yeah, it probably will take about a minute on a Mac.

I use to think it was my fault that Wind^H^H^H^H OS X didn't work properly.

Just like AOL!

"Xinet sucks at optimizing it's software for non Apple OS's"
You can't seriously think that the 2-way Xserve is outperforming the 12-way Sun machine because the hardware is superior.

Can we say bad hardware?
In the world of video this is out of the norm.
