certainly the open source communities claim to being "innovative" would have to be reconsidered when they are using the software model of the one comapny they've labelled as "stifling innovation.

    Come on people.

You have to take what register says with a pinch of salt. Thats obvious from the prose it uses. It intends to provoke so dont be surprised when it does.

    btw

Just so no-one mis-interprets me, I dont literally mean you have to pinch, ingest or sit in the vicinity of salt (or any other mineral) whilst reading the register.
also note that neither am I advising people against this practice either.

    exactly,

linux probably had a multitude of minor, rarely exploited vulnerabilities, whereas win2K/NT had relatively few major holes.

holes that are still now being exploited.

id be interested to see the amount of revenue lost due to linux exploitation versus win2K (taking market share into account of course).

    sounds like poor data analysis...

how many staunch DOS advocates do you hear of...none.
win95-ME ... none. most people accept the use of windows as a chore!!!

and yet the atari ST and the amiga and others STILL have a core group of advocates.

had commodore/atari not aimed their hardware solely at the games market, we would now be living in a world where OS allowed getting things done quickly and efficiently.
