"The Substance of Style: How the Rise of Aesthetic Value Is Remaking Commerce, Culture, and Consciousness"
To remake something is to make the assumption it wasn't already that way. But, in reality, everyone likes pretty things. Sure, someone may fork over twice as much for a pretty Mac that's barely comparable to a half-priced PC, but hey...it's pretty.
Is this to say that any product you foist upon the masses, pretty or no, will have some kind of precedence over functionality? Well, that may be a factor, but when you look into price/value, aesthetic value only factors in a small bit. That's why Apple is still way back there with 5% of computer sales with their ultra-modern...I dunno, cheese graters? Meanwhile, some PC companies are ripping Apple's designs and making a PC that can outrun a Mac for a lesser price.
However, in the industry Apple dominates now (MP3 players, for good reason--good product+style+semiaffordable price), they're threatened by Dell, who is supposedly planning a $100 MP3 Jukebox that's a little less aesthetically pleasing, yet (theoretically) just as functional. That, my good friends, will be the point where we truly see if style can be beaten out by utilitarianism.
Heh, I remember when this news first broke last night.
One true industry insider said it was a step towards Nintendo taking over Bandai. But...we had to wait for fenegi-. Fenegi-, of course, is the owner of Video-Fenky. Also great is the fact that the same fenegi- goodness seen in Video-Fenky is dripping over to 1up.com like juice off of a rotissered ham. So visit both, guys, and support good gaming journalism.
Even though being an officer of the law could mean a higher rate of targeting of abuse, public information like that should be available on everyone or noone.
On the MGS website for Dungeon Siege, it seems that FRPG is a "Fantasy Role Playing Game."
Isn't that kind of redundant? Most all RPGs are fantasy, except for Leisure Suit Larry....well, that's fantasy too, but you get my drift.
Pokemon is an empire within itself, so Nintendo seperated it for tax purposes. Some of thos numbers look fairly off from what numbers have been released individually...but eh.
Viewtiful Joe has breached 61k as of now, so it's selling awfully well for a niche 2D beat'em up.
Heck, this early, and it's already the 23rd beset selling GameCube game in Japan. Plus, it's already beaten Halo.:P

Not really, it's just amazing (or not) that major companies can impose their ways on the American public (and government, for that matter) through sheer ignorance.
If a law is in effect, how can copyrights affect it?
I mean, let's say I said that "Nobody can eat cheese on Tuesday." What would happen...would I collect a nickel for every cheese-busting operation in the USA, or would I be the only one able to use it?
...it feels like every time the RIAA says "don't download!" people see that as a gigantic red button.
Well, you know what? I don't share, and I've downloaded one song over the past three months. Heard it on the radio five times while trying to get it, too.:P
This actually would work out quite nicely for Starbucks, because all music currently in store is put out by their own label.
Pirates fish, you cur! When they're out on the poop deck, without any supplies, what would any salty sea dog eat?
Fish, of course!
I can't pirate in the USA! Time to move north to Canad^H^H^H^Hwell, I hear Mexico is nice this time of year.
By what I've heard, 1 out of every 3 MP3 players sold is an iPod.

*Disclaimer-Author is not aesthetically pleasing.

Okay, fenegi-, I want my ten dollars now.
Verisign, I barely knew ye.
And for that, I'm glad.
Is there anything that boredom and expansionist thinking haven't gotten Linux into?
OH NOS!!!

A cable news website? Like I'd go there in the first place. :P
What website are you referring to, Coward?
I'm misunderstanding you, and what you're advocating is uniform privacy, in which case I'm on board. Bingo.

You just can't have it both ways.
I bet Acclaim is going to sue. They have the patent on marketing gone horribly wrong.
Sci-Fi is a type of fantasy. :P
Same basic concepts, different time period.
Well, if they port it over to the Xbox, you can technically play it on Linux.

You'll take my Redhat from me when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!
COME GET SOME, COPPERS!
Yet another reason why we should remove warning labels from all products, and let idiocy solve itself.
