Having just replayed Baldur's Gate, I was amused to find a reference to NVN being 'released soon'. I bought my copy of BG back in 1998!;-)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to it as much as anyone else...
Back in the good ol' day, Sierra definitely had *something* about them; or at least their games did...
Whilst they kept to a strange format (the point and click on a static screen) for a long time after it was fashionable in adventure games, their games did at least have *soul*...The worlds were believable and exciting. Really, they were very similar in concept to the Final Fantasy games , perhaps even a forerunner to them?
Anyway, the point is that a new Space Quest game is probably something to get quite excited about...at least for us adventurers out there...
That the scientists are keeping their data and techniques close to their chest is no great surprise. I do the same thing with my research data when it is an incomplete state, because you can't risk someone with better resources stealing your idea and taking the credit.
It is a sorry state of affairs, and really just an indication of how all science will eventually end up. More and more PhD students are having to sign secrecy agreements with the people that fund them. Information flows (of useful data) will end up less than they are now in the future because of this. Information Superhighway, BAH!
