Not really. I'll rephrase so you can better understand it: as an online discussion about sexism continues, the probability of a woman who speaks out being called a feminazi approaches 1.
This is what Veganism is? Really? So the millions of people who've led vegan lives in, say, India, over the millennia, are victims of some multi-billion dollar corporate scam? Wow! Thanks for letting me know!
Don't expect to betray spouses and remain anonymous
Oh fuck you and your pitchfork-wielding certainty of moral righteousness. You have no idea what the motives of the users actually are - what if it's a working girl? What if it's a gay person from a country where that's not legal? What if it's someone who has an arrangement with their spouse where this is ok, but wants the other party to have some skin in the game? And even if these users have the motivation you seem to think, it's really none of your business - stay the fuck out of it.
Straw man. I have no problem with generalisations. I have a problem with unsubstantiated generalisations that are used to justify things unjustifiably. In this case, women are helpers by nature and don't like machines (sic) therefore this is why they're under-represented in STEM. It's just a crock from start to finish.
The root of the problem isn't what you seem to think it is. The root of the problem is that guys like you continue to push bullshit like
Women like to help. They'll help people, animals, forests, the environment, etc. But in general, they're not interested in working with machines.
Women, it was once believed, didn't have the constitution to be doctors. Women, it was once held true, didn't possess the analytical minds required for a career in the law.
Women could do without your sexist arse telling them what they are and aren't, and what they can and can't do.
Lots of posts here positing rational reasons why electric cars aren't more popular: mpg (equivalent), price, distance from fueling stations, etc etc.
All of which (mistakenly, imho) assumes rational consumer behaviour.
It's inertia, money and marketing that are holding electric vehicles back. They're unfamiliar, and the incumbents are so, so, monied, and so, so powerful, that gaining any kind of traction at all is crazy difficult.
This is one of those "true in theory but not in practice" things. If you were born into (for example) an Ultra Orthodox Jewish community, brought up in it, never got to see anything outside of it (etc), then your religious beliefs aren't really choices you made. If you're never even been aware of the alternatives, how's it a choice?
Then to be fair, you don't really have much useful to contribute to this discussion. It's as if it were a discussion about the best/worst thing on TV and your only contribution was that you don't watch it and couldn't care less. Good for you.
The stereotype of the penny pinching Jew reflects the fact that they're naturally tight with money! The stereotype of the lazy Mexican reflects the fact that they're just naturally lazy! All the research shows this!
This is a great comment, and the fact that you've been moderated Overrated really highlights just how fucked up Slashdot is with this stuff. The prevailing view, as evidenced by all the +5 Insightful comments trumpeting it, is that sex discrimination against women in STEM, just doesn't exist and it's all some "SJW" (sic) conspiracy.
That's like saying you should walk around with a Faraday Cage just in case you get hit by lightning.
I'm sure you don't mean to, but you sound like an absolute dickhead when you use that word.
All criticism of Islam or resistance of Muslim immigration is hate speech
This is utter garbage. It's hate speech, not criticism of Muslims or Islam in particular that's being discussed. Fucking cretin.

The Slashdot comments on any story related to women in gaming, or women in tech more generally, always bring Lewis' Law to mind.
Greenpeace feminists conspire with HB1 Visa holders to take guns away from experienced middle aged coders!
Show me these "independant studies" or GTFO.
What do we want!
Evidence-based policy making!
When do we want it!
After a thorough examination of all the available data!
a multi-billion dollar industry built on FUD.

"In order to be successful, a new product has to be cheaper and better"
No it doesn't. It just needs to meet a need. Pretty much any luxury good defies this description.
I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Always really interesting to see these two topics come up on Slashdot. Ageism apparently exists, sexism doesn't.
What's this got to do with women's interest in STEM?

Voltaire was saying this before the US even existed.
Christ you're a wanker.

I assumed he meant it's unique in that it has everything (hence the emphasis) rather than unique because it evolved from a collection of villages.
All you had to do was RTFA and you wouldn't have had to ask.
