    Exactly. When someone finds a bug in our software and it's my fault, I usually get embarassed or mad at myself (or the testers depending on the exact nature of the bug and how reasonable it would have been for them to have found it during test.) To the person who found and reported the bug, I feel grateful, even if they are a total dick about it.

    Congratulations! You're violating RFC 1122 - Requirements for Internet Hosts and as such should not expect anything to necessarily work correctly!

    3.2.2.6 Echo Request/Reply: RFC-792

    Every host MUST implement an ICMP Echo server function that receives Echo Requests and sends corresponding Echo Replies


    You know what? I don't give a good goddamn about RFC 1122. Our servers get pounded on every port that is open, every day, since forever. Cutting off ping reduces it dramatically. So, by violating that particulary RFC, I do have a more wonderful day.

    How does Red Hat make money again. Seriously. Who are their big clients, what are the primary services they provide?

    Dell ships computers with Red Hat Enterprise Linux which I assume they buy from Red Hat. In fact, I am posting from one right now. Dell is also nice enough to provide shrink a wrapped RHE disk set which we install on our IBM x-series servers.

    So I really can't help you. I like to worry about one thing at a time. When I first started using linux as a desktop machine in 1999, I worried about copy and paste. Fast forward 6 years, and I am still worrying about it.
