I don't know why they keep talking about the hardware for PS3. It's obviosly the software/tools that isn't up to par.
- DirectX has been maturing constantly over the years with many games developed for it. OpenGL 2.0 is still pretty recent. Cg is OK but combined with new OpenGL developers... who know's? A learning/integration curve that only PS3 developers know.
- Linux OS: Sony had to put a lot of work into it to make it a gaming platform... IMHO I don't think they know enough to compete with MS in this area.
- PS3 online... again, Sony had a lot to learn in a very short time.
It would be nice if software and hardware vendors could all agree on INTERFACES. I mean the interfaces would be an open public standard where each vendor could produce it's own implementation (some better than others).
This goes for all hardware and OS's. It's a pipe dream but if Microsoft has to deal with a competing popular OS, it would be better for everyone.
maybe i'm naive but why don't they make their OS depend heavily on the net instead? reduce piracy and simplify in one shot. more sales and a simplified OS.
Large applications need a good design.
good designs have class diagrams.
good class diagrams need a "Strong Type" programming language.
That eliminates PHP and Perl.
OpenGL 2.0 is still too new to have experienced programmers... at least for shader implementation anyway.
DirectX has been building over the last 5 years...
I think the quality will be seen on the xbox 360.
What are the odds that the number of transistors doubles every 2 years? Sure there are ways of increasing speeds but it seems odd that it's been so constant.
My conspiracy theory is that Moore discovered a way to boost CPU speeds by a factor of 1,000,000 in the 50's or 60's but just decided to throttle the speeds so they could make loads of money by people buying new PC's every 2 years.
I'm not joking.
yo, where's the titties?
Download the latest DirectX SDK and see how fast managed code can run.

my 2 cents, hobbyist game programmer.

I'm saying put the fluff on the net. doc's, images... critical stuff stays on the hard drive.

developpers should just comment out anything that has to do with popups. the internet would be a better place.
Batteries don't evolve at the same rate as electronics.
WASD holds my unborn children.

"Give me free software so I can make some cash. thanks"
microsoft tools too good for you?
how can they make hardware out of their momma's basement?
So what? Lots of the more critical dll's use Assembly. Should we all write in Assembly then? I don't think so.
Getting things to work on Netscape 6.2++ is easy. Getting your page to render with background images and css on Netscape 4.7 is not worth the effort.
When your coworker sits on your lap and types really fast.
Hire a freaking QA team. You have no idea how many damn bugs those weasels will find. I write buggy software so yes, I hate them.
I really don't think China should be used a reference. Read "1984" and look at the resemblences. Don't be a robot.
Only thing more boring is my job. go to www.fark.com for funny and unboring topics.
Sounds pretty stupid to me. Is it supposed to be some new age(dumb) technique?
You`re not funny.

Holy Shit! I hope that was troll
