This guy is a dink that is so out of touch with reality. Music will never become the book industry. the Music industry has been around longer than the book industry, granted the book industry created portable take home versions of it's products before the Music did, but long before printing presses there were concerts and street musicians, and amongst those there were to greats just like today amongst all the bar bands there are the greats (and those that have been shoved into our intra-vienis music drip by corporations, i.e. britney, insynk, etc). No the music industry will never become like the book industry for the people need their superheroes/rockstars to lookup to and insipre them to craw up from their pathedic lives and better themselves. The music industry has just become bloated with corporate rock. cut out the fat and you'll see the that the music industry is still live and kicking, just as it alwasy was.
ANYTHING! that keeps these punk-ass kids from stealing my car stereo again is ok in my book!
seriously, the wack jobs that said "we learned how to do this by playing (insert FPS here)" were probably missing some other important social skills that would have been developed had, 1.) their parents played a more active role in their lives, and 2.) they had a place to experience various social interactions such as....A Lan Party!. so a Lan Party may not be the Boy Scouts, but do you think if little billy and bobby had attended Lan Parties at school and got to know the people there, they might have hesitated enough at the thought of a killing spree not to do it?
i dunno about you, but given enough time i could systematically go through all the peanuts and make sure that i got all the oil...er i mean peanuts. Even if i had to impliment sonar technology to go through my piles of shells to make sure.
funny how peopel 10 years ago could not have predictied what was going to be happening today. Silly bastards aren't they....but i digress.
I've been to your site and although it's a nice collection of links, not a sigle one of those links brings to a software project that does what i need it to. I multitrak hard disk recording, with mastering capabilities (volume, pan, and fx evelopes), FX plugins and the ability to handle LARGE sound files and i mean HUGE files, lots of them. And the ability to handle 32bit files would be nice (for those professional quality fades), but i can live wiht 24bit. So pretty much I want Sonic Foundry's "Vegas" ported over to Linux and all the DirectX/VST plugins in world ported, and oh yeah while you're at it through in Window gaming support and i will never touch Windows again.
the software you have listed on your site is a step in the right direction, but it's just not there yet. And i say yet because unlike all those premenition-impaired peoples 10 years ago, i have no doubt that one day Linux will have a Hard Disk recording program that does everything i want it to, but until then you have failed, sit down.
right all that ice is there waiting for Aronld schwartzennegger to release it so he can save the feakazoids from the evil "breathable air 'r' us" corporation.
i quite agree with you thar, and as a hell desk gimp i never minded the calls from people that needed help fixing their computers. It's the calls from people that wanted instructions on how to operate their computers that pissed me off to no end.
Did the Ford deal teach you to drive? no.
did Sears teach how to sew? no.
did Wards teach how to do your laundry? no.
then why should the hell desk gimp of Computer "r" us teach you how to use your pc?
So, I have no problem with the shop owner deciding to ban firearms... its 'his shop' he can do whatever he wants, if you don't like it, don't give him your money. Your loss
interesting... so then by your logic a store own could but up a sign that says "whites only" or "no darkies allowed" or "only crackers can shop here" or..well i hope you get the point. And he can get away with this because, as you say, "it's his store"? you may say that discrimination of this kind is different because with the "no gun sign" the owner is discriminating against an object, not a human as with the "honkey" signs. And I'll give you that, so then lets change the "whitey" signs to "no prosetic limbs". Would you then say "it's his store, he can do what ever he wants."?
ouch! isn't that a bit harsh? I, for one, am glad he posted this. I own a Dragon Soyo MB, and though i currently don't have FreeBSD running on it yet, but when i upgrade my gameing PC, my FreeBSD box will get this MB. And i never would have though that the APM, or ACPI would cause a problem. Had I run into a problem after setting up my FreeBSD system, yes i woul dhave done my homework then and fixed it. But by shareing this question, and receiving answers from the mass knowledge of the slashdot community, I was able to gain knowledge that I would not have known I needed. So please don't be so quick to condem someone for performing what you believe to be a wasted effort.
does that mean i can sue Ford because their cars alow people to break the law (speed, run over people, tear up my lawn) or could i sue the makers of telephones for enableing telemarketers to hassel me, or just maybe i'll cut through all the BS, and sue God for allowing everythign to be so f'd up;)
i have no sympathy for you. you are the one that didn't do the research before you signed up with this broadband dealer. When i worked retail i would tell the morons that came in to buy a computer becasue everyone else on the lbock had one, that most people usually learn how to use something before they buy it. The ford dealer doesn't teach how to drive, Sears doesn't teach you how to sew, or wash your clothes. You needed to learn about broadband adn the differences in residential and business class accounts before you bought it. as mentioned in other posts you get what you payfor, adn if you paid for residential then too bad you take the shitty customer service and downtime like the rest of us.Wheni worked hel desk for an isp we had 100s of people callin in to complain about residential 56k connections going down and they could sell their UO, or Ever crack junk on eBay and there fore would not be able to make rent that month. My response everytime would be "If you are going to put your finacial wellbeing in the hands of a technology that is proven to be faulty, then you deserve to get bite in the ass and i have no sympathy for you, adn as a matter of fact i hope you cannot make your payment, adn therefore lose you house/apt and have to live on streets when you'll be used as target practice for some redneck and or gang (depending on area of the country they were from)thus removing you from society, relieveing the world of another lazy ass leech who can't take the time to do a little bit of reasearch to secure their finances." and this is why i didn't last too long at the isp hell desk. you need to grow up, take responsibilty for your own inaction, suck it up, take the loss and above all learn form this, and learn how to apply this learning to other situation so you don't make similar mistakes, for if you cannot perfore this simple task, then it's time for you to sterilize yourself. have a nice day, and thank you called the isp hell desk;)
actually you think that hemlines would follow stock prices not the other way around, for when stocks are up people are making money, and women want to attract someone with that money by wearing clothes with a shorter hemline
is this the same Fluorescent Multi-layer Disc that slashdot ran an artical on about a year and half ago? the same one where the web page showed someone holding one of the clear spacers that come with the cd spindels as an example of the Fluorescent Multi-layer Disc. the same article that got torn to shreads by just about everyone that reads slashdot and their grandmothers? Is that the new fangled technology you are talking about?
Crack Smoker!

just the simple fact that i can stop popups without disableing all javascript makes my nipples pointy. Goodbye IE, hello Moz.

your analogy fails. you fail. sit down!
Thank you!
Finally, someone who has not failed. A rare breed in the trenches of Slashdot.

Bwahahahah, this is funny! adn nicely done i should add.
actually you think that hemlines would follow stock prices not the other way around, for when stocks are up people are making money, and women want to attract someone with that money by wearing clothes with a shorter hemline
but that's just my opinion i could be wrong

well let's see, some of cDc's previous offerings are named "Back Orifice", and "Butt Trumpet" i think "Peek-A-Booty" is right in line.
but that's just my opinion i could be wrong
then it would take too damn long to dl your thumbnail and i'd get bored and move on the the sight that the picture originated from ;)
