Sorry to break it to you but the OS comes with the computer. Each computer is licensed with the OS it originally came with. That's why you can never buy OS X, you can buy the upgrade because the computer is already licensed to accept it.
Anyways your rant about a desktop OS is frivolous. All XServs come with OS X Server, and, depending on the configuration, it is either licensed for 10 or unlimited users.
And basically every computer manufacturer has you locked into some OS. SGI with Irix, Sun with Solaris, and Apple with OS X. But you could always build it yourself off eBay, right.
Damn, now they are worth something. I keep ripping them off hoping no one thinks I've been stealing VT computers.
True story. I gave my gf a laptop I picked up from those auctions. She used it for a year and when she needed to bring it into the tech support office she stopped dead in her tracks. She saw the audit sticker and assumed I stole it and gave it to her. Still doesn't believe me to this day that the computer is legit
I think a lot of people forget the biggest thing going for the PS2 when it debuted wasn't the games but the builtin DVD player. At the time DVD players were going for ~$200-300 by themselves. A $300 PS2 that could play PS2 games, PSOne games, and DVDs must have been a real bargain for a lot of people.
In fact, if I remember some gamezine article from a few years back Sony was afraid the PS2 would cannibalize sales of their standalone DVD players. It was a hit in Japan not because of the games, admit it the first batch of PS2 games were crap, but due to the small living quarters the PS2 fit 3 devices in one.
Trust me, the university is not letting anything out of their hands that can't be obsoleted first. It's a state school so they have a pecking order.
My first bet is a large majority ends up at the Empo' followed by professors (who are also looking to build a smaller farm), faculty, staff, other state schools, and if we are so fortunate (and this is really a long shot) you can scoop one auctioned[PURCH].
Just ask one deceased Columbian druglord, pablo Escobar, who had a smartbomb dropped on his ass. Guess how they found? IIRC, an informant gave the DEA his cellphone #, from that they were able to determine his whereabouts. Even though he turned the cell off, the service provider called into it every hour to track him, while he was asleep.
Of course if he was using my GF's shitty Moto V120 he would have gotten away just in time. The damn thing makes every electronic device in our home whistle and pop seconds before a call comes in and then some.
Actually for Virginia Tech the cost is $0, still should be. The university has a licensing agreement with Apple. All "university" computers that can run OS X are eligible for upgrades. I've ran down to the Software Distribution Center more than a few times to get all types of CDs.
PS. Same rules apply for Microsoft (Office, Window, etc.)
Dude, have you even bothered to use an Ipod? I assume not. Right on the main screen below "playlist" is "browse". You can search by categories including artists, albums, genre, or all. Categories don't require a playlist. If you have Itunes you can use smart playlists to really chisel the selections. Example, I have a smart playlist called "Just Jay Z," guess what's in there...
Who's with me to get off the network? I got it all figured out. We live in RVs, pay in cash, and use public libraries. And work as freelance technical support using prepaid cellphones.
mmwahh hahahah
I'm not sure about the article but I'm running the latest version of the OS and all the tweaks I've installed onto my machine(Weatherpop and CPU watch) are running fine.
