Seeing that shot of Ice Hockey made me want to take out my NES now and play it. I actually haven't really played many post-N64 video games, so I don't even know how the controls would work in the newer games. If the game played exactly the same as Ice Hockey, wasn't unnecessarily more complicated for "realism's" sake... but just LOOKED better and that's it... I'd be willing to play it.
The problem is I don't think it's just the look of the games that's changed fundamentally over the years, it's the actual dynamics of the gameplay. Ice Hockey aimed at being fun and amusing... I have a feeling this new NHL game aims at being intense and real.
I think the old games were just more fun. Nintendo has been keeping the spirit of being "fun" alive through to the Nintendo64, but after that I felt Nintendo tried to become aimed at an even younger audience. And the Playstation and it's style and mindset just was never me. I hated the look of all those games.
I'm 24 years old, and me and some other computer science students recently got together and took out the old NES and SNES... and I think we had a LOT more fun playing those games than we would on any new system.
(My favorite system I own is still the Genesis/32X/Sega CD... 3 power plugs, yeah!)
Maybe the US needs to treat the Internet as a state and give it it's own court system and jurisdiction (and local laws). Of course these laws should only be used internally within the USA, and no effort to force other countries to recognize those laws should ever be made.
That also could mean the Internet gets its own sales tax rate, across all websites, instead of depending on what state the company is located in. Maybe the funds could then be used to improve Internet infrastructure... much like how state taxes can be used to fund improvements to highways and such.
And the Rykodisc Bowie "Sound + Vision" series albums that have the bonus tracks that are non-existent on the newer Virgin releases of the same albums (except for these new 25th anniversary editions that look like mini books). I think Ryko added bonus tracks to every album in the Bowie catalog they had the rights to, except for Aladdin Sane.
Wow... well I started to read that piece by Jodorowsky you linked. I used to wonder what that version of Dune would have been like (mostly because Giger was associated with it, and I had seen some of his concept drawings for Dune).
But geez. Jodorowsky didn't even need the name "Dune" or the novel at all apparently, because his film is pretty much something else entirely except it has characters with the same name and a similiar theme.
For all the whining I've heard about the liberties Lynch took with the Dune movie, apparently he was MUCH more true to the novel than Jodorowsky would ever have been.
Well I don't think PalmOS would have continued to be a viable OS for modern PDA's... it's analogous to modern Macintoshes still trying to work with the System 6 code base from the Motorola 68000 days. Modern PDA's need to be these tiny miniature PC's basically. And provide a portable version of the important tasks people like to do on their PC's. Of course people can argue that you don't NEED your PDA to be capable of doing fancy multimedia things (I still think all my cellphone needs to do is make calls), but next to other modern PDA's, an old Palm looks pretty ancient. Palm definitely needed to do something about the OS they were using, and I think BeOS *could* have worked... but they didn't manage it right.
They certainly wouldn't use BeOS technology in MacOS, but they might use BeOS tech inside the PDA itself, it was a reasonably small, efficient, responsive operating system. OS X is great for desktops, laptops, and servers but it may be overkill for a PDA. BeOS could probably also run on cheaper hardware. I can imagine BeOS being themed/modified to appear like a mini version of OS X for handhelds (all it took for the iPod OS to look "Mac" was to use the Chicago font and have an apple logo when booting).
But as someone mentioned, it doesn't appear this Palm entity actually owns rights to PalmOS or BeOS.
I'm still surprised Palm didn't do ANYTHING useful with BeOS technology.
Hmmm... I'd like you to meet my good friend Slutty Sue... she acts so sweet (but she won't tell you the truth about her past). Go on and put it in her vagina, I dare you.
If time has many dimensions then I wonder why we perceive it to go forward only (though at different relative rates depending on relative speed). The reason why we perceived gravity to point down only was just a matter of not being able to see the big picture, although I would have thought more people would have noticed the Earth is round sooner, the curve is clearly visible from most mountaintops. So what's the big picture we need to see in order to see more dimensions to time? How do we step back and notice the slight curve in the horizon?
It sure seems like time goes forward only, from my own day to day observations. My mind can't even comprehend what going another direction (except for "backwards") would even mean as a concept.
Well there was an even bigger relationship between Apple and Pixar (as its own company) and I don't recall seeing a ton of special promotions and cross-over collaborations and such. So I would expect even less from Disney and Apple now, since Steve's role at Disney is less than it was at Pixar.
you wanted to get the typical slashdot joke in there... and then you were worried it would just be modded down right away so you TRIED to add some value to your comment, but you sure didn't come up with much with your whole "but seriously why should we care" comment... but you had to submit it because you were worried if you didn't than you wouldn't still have first post. so sad.
Can you even plug a 32X into the top of a CDX?
I remember I rented a CDX from blockbuster or something once before I actually got a Sega CD. Those things are pretty cool.
It's not that they no longer value funness, it's that they no longer value funnosity.

I find your request to know this information to be very highly offensively worded.
See you in court !
Meh ! Meh ! Meh ! Meh !
Meh!
i use python but i call it "african snake"
...although, to be fair, the baptists were much worse.
I went to high school in a suburb of Phoenix, and our high school has a seminary which is closer to school than most people's parking spaces.
And yet I recall mormons making lame comments during biology class when we discussed evolution.
I believe you meant to say: "How many Krugles would a Google Google if a Google could Google Krugle?"
Repeats of this nitpicking, and more annoying nitpicking can be expected if Krugle becomes a hit like Google.

Interestingly, every Indian I have ever met uses this word this way. Such as "That thing was gifted to me".
It is in Merriam-Webster as a verb, I guess it's just not what we would say in American English, normally.
Hi, remember me? I'm Annoying Tone... me and my buddy Repetition were just...

Those are some pretty poor reading comprehension skills you've got.

I think this is about Kooks... not Cooks... or Cookies.
Remember those crazy college days? Ahhh man, all those cookies...! Weird, strange cookies, too!

That place is just like 10 miles east of here... it's a dump.
Doesn't the question of which IDE to use for Java come up every month or two on slashdot?
Well more information can't hurt... I don't know how necessary it will be... but as a reference at least it would be there when/if needed.
