People probably buy it because they expect it to be better.

Yeah, you get twice the bits for your money, which adds up to big-time savings in the long haul, because since you have more bits, you can add more softwares before they run out. And don't have to install a linux on top of the GUI to reclaim them. The control panel can even handle more tools. It's a win-win situation. Who needs printers connected to their server? Or .Net running in IIS (which you CAN do, but it sucks, boy howdy)?

And for those who have seen the virus episode of sbemails at homestarrunner.com:
"I see a 'Strong ba' in there, but it's getting eaten by some...Linux or something."

On that note, has anyone thought up a good analogy to explain what the hell a browser is? Because I have numerous clients who think that IE and Firefox have different webpages in them. I've tried the it's-a-webpage-reader-and-the-pages-are-in-the-tub es-waiting-to-be-flushed analogy, and no worky.

First, sorry for calling you a douchebag. It was way uncool, as the kids say.

If I bought this, plugged it into an MCE or Tablet Edition PC, I wouldn't expect it to work based upon their specs.

I probably would. I would also have questions about the 64-bit version of Windows, but considering that I'm a computer technician, it's feasible to assume I WOULD have questions. A normal user or business user who happens to be running an x64 version of Windows (they exist) should at least have their complaints respected.

People would be upset if something came out and said it supported OS X, but it turned out it only supported 10.2+. The problem with the term "Windows Vista"--and this IS MS's fault--is that it means Vista Ultimate, Vista Home, etc. Apple should pay attention to what they're releasing, and if they don't, fix it. That's all I'm saying. It's not high crime or anything, but Google at least TRIES to put on a show about their "Don't Be Evil" thing. Apple could try to live up to their self-proclaimed computing messiah status. It Just Works, indeed.

But really, why the hell are people using 64-bit Windows, anyway? I purchased Win2003 64-bit for a client's server, and it's one of the stupidest things I ever did. :)

    like a *Dean* democrat

I have to chime in on this, too. This is crappy expression, because the one thing Democrats are very legitimately held out to dry with consistently is the waffling thing. And Dean got broken down by the press and John Kerry for a)changing his mind once, and b)shouting once. The reason why Dean democrats are excitable is because he was relying on grassroots movement to get the word out. Was he not the first to really use a blog to its full potential? Does anyone else to this day use modern technology in a hip, functional way?

In a world where GWB gets commended for never changing his mind in the face of facts and evidence and truth and Jesus shouting at him to please stop the massacre, I think it absurd that Dean isn't respected for (again with the letters) a)disagreeing with everyone, including democrats, and b)being right. He was the only candidate who was not beholden to anyone to any real degree, and people chose Kerry, because Dean is apparently a Volvo-driving, homosexual-sympathizing, Vermontian (vermontite? vermint?). And Kerry intentionally ate real big political dooky so he could keep his fat fucking Senator salary and continue being his stupid douche self.

So I think "Kerry democrat" is a FAAAAR worse insult.

"A competitive activity where participants try to achieve a goal within set rules, and prevent the opponent from achieving the goal. The goal is set within the game itself."

I think a sport's a game, which I would define as (here we go) "An activity where one outcome is declared as better than another outcome, while involved in the activity"

So a playing with that paddle-elastic-ball thing would be a game (albeit not a very fulfilling one). But it wouldn't be a sport. So here's my definition:

    Sport:
    "A competitive game."

The skill thing is redundant, because it's in the definition of the game/sport that "skill" is defined. It's not like if you're at the office, people will be praising your ability to get a ball into a ring that's 10 feet off the ground.

For the record, reference.com thinks Sport is:
"an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc."

It also has sub-definitions, but I think the Chess is sort of tacked on as sport to make people feel good. Sort of like calling American football an intellectual activity. Sure.

I have made a total of probably about $200 doing graphic design in my life, and on the particular job, I am making $0, because it is a)for a friend, and b)building my portfolio. I have discovered Pixel, and given the very little usage I put into a graphic editor, I may just purchase that for $38, rather than use Photoshop for $700 and STILL have to split the work up with the GIMP.

I pirated Nuendo 3, and discovered that I didn't like it AT ALL. I am using Ardour 2, and I have contributed $50, because they requested it. It freaking meets my needs. Had I liked Nuendo, eventually I could have purchased it. They sure as hell weren't looking for my measly $50, though, which would have been too much, given my usage of it.

It's like, I grew up in Mexico, then tried to get work papers so I could work as a computer tech. I was told I had to do timeshare or I couldn't get papers, because I didn't have any credentials, and therefore I was taking jobs away from mexicans. I couldn't explain that they didn't have any places I could get credentials where I grew up, which incidentally where I was being denied papers. So I worked under the table. And there wasn't a single motherfucker who came into that place for 2 years who didn't think I was a Mexican. Kind of bothered me that a)I couldn't advertise for myself so I made less money, and b)they were denying themselves a 10% flat tax on everything I earned, plus some for being a gringo. The only time we immigration was ever a concern was after the shop tried to get papers for me and my brother. But then, that's the price you pay for trying to do the right thing.
