I hate the humanizing effect that reading an interview with MS developers has. It makes it that much harder to hate the vile Behemoth that is Windows. I kind of feel bad about all the horrible things I've said about SP2, given that it's been a labor of love to these people.
Oh well. I'm still going to fight tooth and nail Microsoft's domination of the computing platform. It's MY labor of love.
Thankfully, we the USAnians will not have to deal with this disaster, our empire having crumbled due to massive misuse of power. And again, thankfully the Chinese have their shit together more than we do. Hopefully they'll figure out how to blow the fucker off-course.
I know someone said something along these lines, but I think Mr. Affleck and Mr. Willis will be available. Along with Mr. Tyler. In 2030 it's not just in Soviet Russia that Asteroids play YOU! It'll be all over the world.
Ok. You might be right. I've never run Outlook on my home PC, but I've fixed like a gazillion computers, many with Outlook. My feeling of bloat with Outlook could easily be the disarray I find these PCs in when I work with them.
I stand firmly by my statement about the proprietary email format, though. Yes, you can turn it off. Try exlaining it to John Q. Windowsuser.
"It's like, there's this format that email is supposed to be in, right? And your friend is using a program that by default doesn't comply with that standard, right? So that's why some of the mails he sends you come with the junk attachment. It's not my fault. I swear."
"No, you can't use Outlook too. You have a Mac, and are using Entourage. Yes, it's by the same company. No, the company doesn't provide cross-product support. It doesn't make sense to use the non-compliant software just to fix this tiny problem because it will make the problem bigger."
*WHAP!*
It took me 30 minutes once to explain it to this doctor. He's actually pretty dense though. He's actually going to buy a Windows PC because he can't read the funny attachments Dennis Jones (R-FL), sends him. True story.
I can hack an XBOX without a modchip. Really, I don't know why you would need one. They don't come preloaded with a bios and you'd have to run through the basic Mechinstaller or 007 hack anyway.
Why not just flash whatever bios you're so hot about to the TSOP? You can always flash it back. And as for playing on games online, just buy a WRT54G and flash the xlink custom firmware to it and you're ready to go, and free (beer-like).
That multiple graphics card one sounds creepy. The implications of taking the mouse cursor off the right edge of an OS X screen onto the left edge of a Linux screen are mind-boggling.
I think your description of how Outlook helps you get things done is more an indication of what an organized person you are, not the quality of the application. I'm not saying there isn't an upside to Outlook, but here are the downsides I know:
1.- Big and bloated. 2.- Proprietary email format, not even legible by other Microsoft mail clients, appends trailing junk to email. 3.- Clippy. 4.- Windows (9x, NT, 2000, XP, 2003, Longhorn). 5.- Cost.
But that doesn't mean it's not right for some people. Except for item #2. That one does. It means it's evil.
Human performance, by nature is not perfect, the task of cleaning up notation created with midi can be very daunting indeed.
I have a client who uses Lilypond for music notation, and he tried capturing into rosegarden, then cleaning it up, but since he was used to playing pianos without pedals, he tends to bleed notes over, so it was unfeasable.
Not to mention Giant Anti-spyware's integrated reporting feature (SpyNet). It'll make it easier to enforce DRM to have a program that could potentially find questionable items and report back to MS. Considering Longhorn's proposed already mighty strict treatment concerning DRM.
And people will run this software because it's GOOD for them. Ah, yes. How easily we submit to a courteous request to ass-rape us (presented with much romance and hullaballoo, of course).
I think the issue of tripping over wires is moot. Because it's mainly for professionals in a professional environment. Initially, anyway. This is like complaining of the danger of nailguns, because most people can't operate a hammer correctly without hurting themselves.
then it doesn't matter if they've found all the bugs. It's reasonable to assume that they found roughly the same percentage of bugs as they did in any other code they analyzed. But I agree. Phrasing it that way is misleading.
I agree but with reservations. I haven't RTFA either, so we're even. I did, however search TFA for Windows, and it's not in TFA.
The reason why comparing the Linux kernel to Windows in its entirety is fair is because you can install just the Linux kernel. You can't install just the Windows kernel. Plus, I do think that as far as scope goes, they are reporting bugs per capita.
Also, I've found much more often that Windows in its entirety crashes when one of the parts of Windows that is not Windows according to you crashes. So if the Windows microkernel isn't a platform and the integral parts of Windows without which Windows won't work can easily disrupt the microkernel, then we must compare the platform Windows to the platform Linux.
Also, if Microsoft released their source code, it would be open to scrutiny. But they haven't.
"If you give me 20k more this year, by next year all new hires will be trained in the Linux OS we choose to install and support. Furthermore, all new systems will be built on a platform that encourages interoperability instead of hindering it, like Microsoft Windows products will.
"The installation of new Linux-based PCs will lower the cost of hardware necessary to run said machines, while providing a compatible link with Windows machines, Macintosh machines, BeOS, all *nixes, and whatever OS suits your needs in the future.
"With this gradual migration to Linux, we will have the ability to spend more money on our valued employees who would be able to develop a customized and customizable open platform suited directly to our needs instead of outsourcing our software budget to Redmond, Washington
[when I say Republican, I mean Evil Republican(TM)]
I think this has to do with the fact that the people in power, who happen to be Republican and who also happen to have won the election on a statistical impossibility, have been fighting against any means to verify the validity of the election.
So my problem is not being able to see the source code. My problem is not seeing any of this on the news until very very recently. My problem is the fact that Jeb Bush (the incumbent's brother, FYI) vetoed the paper trail. My problem is the photographic evidence of Republicans taking trash bags full of vote cartridges out the back door, dumping them, and coming back in the front door with new carts.
People say that the Democrats cheated as much as the Republicans, and while I don't doubt that some of them would have, I don't think they had the means. And I don't get how people doubt citizens with no stock in the political process other than the direction of the country MORE than they doubt politicians, who are professionals in the field.
It doesn't make any sense. And why the hell would you veto a paper trail unless you KNEW you would have an unfair advantage? It doesn't make any sense.
Just read all the posts concerning the fact that correlation doesn't equal causation. There are people who aren't Christian who are unscientific, and people who are Christian who are scientific.
When I was a kid my friends dad, a Christian, worked in robotics. He had signed a confidentiality agreement and couldn't discuss them, so maybe he was making robots do the work of Jesus, but I highly doubt it.
You could just embed transmitters in the walls. That would do the job for businesses trying to keep their hardware on grounds. Although I guess all you'd have to do is steal or reverse-engineer a transmitter before you stole the hardware.
The best solution would be a combination of both, I suppose, a GPS integrated into the system and a wireless boot key. You could even do away with the physical external dongle if you wanted.
The other issue is I would hate the idea of working for a corporation that assumed I was a criminal from the get-go. But I guess most corporations are that way.
I just discovered that my coat has a slit in the pocket by which I may insert my hand to stroke my penis.
FYI.

Speaking of Lilypond, help is needed compiling it for Arch Linux. You know. FYI.
You can even play a breakout with a baseball in the real world with that technology.
Yeah, but that one doesn't work on your boss. "I was, uh, just pretending I was a yellow paddle and I had to... uh... umm..."

Windows does appear in TFA:
"Windows XP, by comparison, contains about 40 million lines of code, with new bugs found on a frequent basis."
They don't, however, actually say anything about Windows though. And even though they say "by comparison," it's not an actual relevant comparison.
then it doesn't matter if they've found all the bugs. It's reasonable to assume that they found roughly the same percentage of bugs as they did in any other code they analyzed. But I agree. Phrasing it that way is misleading.
