"...the same thing as Apple announcing they were going to be using Intel processors..."
I disagree.
Most people don't give a rat's ass what processor is inside of a Macintosh; the thing that makes it unique is the operating system running on it. The Apple transition (if done right) should be seamless, with the OS running as it does today (or faster) and most existing apps continuing to work as today.
Palm is doing essentially the exact opposite. They are changing the OS, changing the look and feel of the software on the Treo, and breaking compatibility with all existing Palm software. As a current Treo owner, I'm pretty sad about the transition.
I noticed a piece of Mac shareware just released a new version today. The reason? They are dropping their old "iWork" name for a new one. Veddy interestink.
(Note, the piece of shareware is now titled "iBiz".)
You wouldn't have seen stories like this on Slashdot a couple of years ago because the Mac OS was just some POS OS in those days. Now it's another UNIX distribution, arguably the largest UNIX distribution shipping today. Cool beans.

Sure you do. You can choose to not watch tv for a change. Read a book, go outside, go to the pub and have a pint. "By the end of the first month, I didn't miss tv." - Narrator.

This little event probably occured too late to make the nominations. Oh well, there's always next year. Story at CNN opens in a new window.

Build a man a fire and hell be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
