    I'd be more inclined to say:

    Necessity is the mother of invention, and invention
    is in the realm of engineering and science where the
    work encompasses an area of scientific study.

    Business just arranges the exchange of goods.

    We "need" business, but for sustainability into the
    infinite future we have finite resources and making
    trash mountains is not a good game plan.

    During much of the Cold War, the lifespan of most aircraft was less than a decade of front-line service; today, the F-15 and F-16 form the backbone of the USAF fighter complement, and the designs are more than 30 years old.

    The B-52, 56 years thus far.

    I was working in the oil industry a decade ago, when the price of oil was a fifth of what it is now, and they had people researching old wells even then.

    Well see, I sensed a disturbance in the force and
    knew that someone out there would see "ppl" and
    not realize that shorthand is used in the court system.

    So, just for you, I typed it out as ppl.

    Because of the use of ppl I saved time until
    this became important to you.

    You will see ppl abbreviate Sat., Sun., Mon., etc etc.

    In fact etc, it a abbreviation for Etcetera.

    So I'd make sure and write all the Unix and Linux
    early developers and let them know that /ETC needs
    to be fixed NOW !!!

    And that it is a plague upon humanity...

    Also, One Rsync variation uses a Delta copy method where it only
    copies over the data that has changed even at a file level.

    Ex: a 700mb movie file is slightly edited, it does not
    recopy the whole movie file, just the diff.

    Ppl are upset and raise hell over it, ppl find Dilbert
    hilarious because they see relational irony in it.

    The only ppl that want that are the corrupt paid off power
    brokers in DC that got elected on false promises, and
    by screwing the American ppl.

    Engineering things well costs more, and all the DRM crap is
    just so they can extend control, and maximize profit.

    If things stay as they are we will never see a Star Trek like
    civilization because we are too wrapped up in making money
    and actually engineering things to NOT last so they can sell more.

    The disposable lifestyle is on a collision course with
    sustainability, and humans are not going to like the outcome.

    Government leaders in the US have meetings voicing huge concerns
    over the monster landfills, and running out of places to dump
    all the garbage.

    If we do not start engineering EVERYTHING for sustainability,
    we are going to have some serious issues down the road.

    I know ppl working in the oilfield who are paid to research old
    wells so they can go back and try to drill deeper even though
    the vast majority of the time they find NOTHING.

    You don't do that unless there are serious problems looming.

    In the next few years you will see the price of food double
    or triple, and anything made of plastic will as well.

    "Suits" are just like the carpetbaggers that took advantage
    of ppl after the civil war, and they have no soul, and don't
    care who is screwed over in their infernal quest for share
    price, and revenue.

    I think the problem is that Fleischmann and Pons [wikipedia.org] gave the entire field a bad name by seeking publicity (if true?)

    The deal was another scientist with the last name of jones got
    wind of their experiment as was going to announce ahead of them.

    So they announced early, ill prepared, and looked it too.

    To me the verification of Tritium in most major countries
    around the world in independent experiments is all I needed to see.

    The excess heat, and helium-4 present in excess of background
    levels also nails it.

    I am willing to bet 1 USD on the fact that this invention will not turn out to be churning out energy using nuclear fusion. Payments will be done through paypal if anyone is willing to bet 1 USD on that this invention will prove to be generating energy from nuclear fusion.

    Yes, the US navy agrees something is going on.

    They also say they do not 100% understand it, but it
    looks very promising.

    I think you will find that Nuclear Fusion does not occur
    just one way, and that the byproducts can vary thus the
    search for clean fusion via helium-4.

    The Helium-4 fusion crowd based alot of their hopes off the
    large quantity of helium-4 on the moon.

    If a clean reaction can be achieved in this manner, than
    perhaps it is of a similar variety.

    Also keep in mind that many scientists from around the world
    have verified the Tritium levels.

    As smart as we are, we still have a lot to learn.

    Wanna bet.. Governments wont allow that.

    The upcoming energy crisis will force some of the
    governments overseas to pursue this further.

    I am thinking Japan, China, India who all have
    bright scientists, and some are involved in the
    research going forward.

    Actually another scientist was trying to beat them to their
    announcement.

    Also it was not the 2 of them that called it Cold Fusion.

    Scientists around the world were able to reproduce the
    excess heat AND some, the tritium levels given a
    3 week ramp up period.

    Some scientists in japan that let it run for awhile saw
    transmutation of metals.

    Helium-4 has been registered as present at SRI.

    The US government project was given only 2 weeks to reproduce,
    and thus did not see it, it was a project lead by biased
    hot fusion scientists that had huge budgets at stake.

    Some ppl realize that if this occurs, hundreds if not thousands
    of ppl will be losing their jobs, and 40 billion dollars put
    into hot fusion so far will dry up.

    The US Navy at the SPAWAR facility has verified that there
    is "something" going on and it has warranted further research.

    It may not be "cold fusion" but they have proof of excess
    heat and other signs of nuclear process.

    Some of the scientists involved are well respected too.

    Consider all evidence before passing final judgement.

    Most businesses buy the PC and it comes pre-installed with Vista.

    When it gets to their facility they have a Volume License
    and image the machine with XP.

    They use Sysprep or equivalent to deal with unique SID issues,
    and they go from there.

    Most companies are fed up with waiting for the last service pack
    after several years to close the majority of the gaping holes.

    So they don't jump on the latest Service Pack Zero OS from MS.

    As a former employee of Dell let me tell you that on the
    Idea Storm site setup by Dell for its customers a massive
    outcry for the return of XP led to the return of XP on some
    Dell machines.

    It would be all Dell machines if not for severe arm twisting from MS.

    Nuff' said.

    Oh yeah, Oklahoma has massive natural gas wells.

    Some were so massive when they came in they caused minor earthquakes.

    There are literally dozens if not hundreds of them.

    Oklahoma is the 3rd largest Natural Gas producer in the US.

    Suprised we use any coal at all.

    High power tornadoes are extremely rare.

    I live in the center of tornado alley, and my house
    is 55 years old, and my friend's house is 70+ years old.

    Neither of these houses have been hit by a F0-F5.

    Some day that will happen, but I may not be alive to see it.

    There are lots of homes around me that are over 50 years
    old and none of them have been hit.

    A few areas in central Oklahoma seems to be a tornado magnet
    Moore and Edmond, some areas almost never get hit,like Norman.

    I have no idea why, just a observation of the last 20 yrs.

    Oklahoma is building windmills like mad, and I think it is great.

    Texas, Iowa, and the Dakotas as well.

    The big multi-megawatt turbines are cost effective as long
    as the weather doesn't destroy too many of them.

    natural gas here in Oklahoma.

    Yeah in cloudy parts of Europe the non barage tidal generators
    might be the trick as the clouds don't effect the tides.

    world and can make power, so spread the power generation
    across all 24 time zones and use long haul transmission.
