Anything worth having is worth fighting for in my opinion .

Our society has become lazy, and I have worked with these

Ppl often spend twice the energy pissing and moaning about

user to make it happen .

Back to WiFi, community Wireless LAN's where ppl share files, will take off .

Rural communities with "zero" broadband can take 2 strands of
single mode long haul, and spray it from their water tower to
    their whole small town .

I am setting one of them up myself in a small town .

I am setting it up as a Coop, the more ppl that sign up the
cheaper it gets because bandwidth is cheaper by unit
    as it increases .

A squid box to cache common sites, and monitoring to find
abusers , and rate limiting thru QoS if it is needed .

A good BSD firewall to save shelling out a small fortune to Crisco .

An ATM PCI card to bring in the pipe .

This is happening in other places too, and will spread worldwide .

802.11b is not going to redefine the net, or the world, but
it is going to make a super cheap last mile solution .

We will not free outselves of the long haul carriers
for awhile, but bandwidth gets cheaper in bigger bundles .

Coop's bypass the corporate cash cow collectors .

www.cantenna.com is a sign of the changes to come .

With better antennas, it will go further than a mile too , Ex.: Grid Antennas .

Multiple yagi's pointing every 10 degrees, with sidelobe
shielding will provide plenty of bandwidth .

After all the cell providers love to use water towers

I think a sliding window of updates that follow each character is more practical than the old way
that sent the twitch of every living thing down the UDP data pipe .

Dungeon Siege uses the sliding window of updates .

It is still not going to work that well for dial up, but that has more to do with Trace Routes and lag .

Asynchronous delivery of packets causes real time apps to be jumpy, high error rates due to retransmission too .

Analog is error inherent, broadband/baseband that is digital has MUCH lower error rates .

The POTS network for internet acccess was in my "opinion", just a work around .

Fiber to the neighborhood, and 802.11g to end user would provide every minor/major city good net access .

If this was 2 hops off the back bone, it would have blistering trace routes , and be good for gaming .

A purely optical core would assure this .

Cell phone providers use water towers a great deal in the mid west, this is workable for 802.11g too .

Ppl's post on here have talked about how US networks suck compared to the canadian counterparts .

    Here is why ...

Do a trace route to a friend in another city that is near you .

You will find the cable modem companies have routed all their data through just a few points of presence
and it may be 20 hops added to the route, and have latency that is ridiculous for a network that is "supposed" to be fast .

If they had a honest point of presence in each city to the backbone I would not have to route all the way to kansas city like the rest of the midwest .

That was true even when I was on dallas, its pathetic .

This is all due to greed and cost cutting measures to "maximize profits" , and what they get is a piss poor product that is ridiculed online .

Ppl end up looking for a better product, one will arrive eventually.

I think communities need start their own network coop's , and
bypass the cash cow corporates .

If you want something done right, do it yourself .

Ppl with network knowledge far beyond my own will be required,
but it CAN be done, and some US cities are already looking
into this and setting up as a local utility .

For good gaming, you need a good trace route, you need as
few errored packets as possible as most games use UDP protocol
    for their transmission method .

Thus why modem users tend to see ppl "teleport" in online
    games when moving about .

Use a network monitoring tool like neo-trace to track your
trace route over time similar to a chart recorder .

There are better monitor tools to be had to be sure ,
but neo trace is decent for the poor folks .

Most of these companies customers are americans, not ppl in Eurasia .

The foreign labor meanwhile sends this money to a foreign market, after all that is where
    they live .

3 Step process - remove jobs from US, Send jobs overseas(import temp labor), outflow of funds overseas

It's one thing to lose your jobs to someone
that will spend the money here, and another
to lose it to someone that sends the vast
majority of it home to Eurasia .

As this starts to impact the economy here

Watch the housing market over the next 5 years .

The american companies are tagetting short

When the count hits 10 million laid off americans, that will require 10 million

Once methane fuel cells are prevalent it is

may not be as applicable .

#3 - High Altitude launch platform held aloft

fair amount of energy , and rail gun from that
height might be able to pitch non G-force
    sensitive cargo/materials into space .

Consider it a poor mans verison of the
    proposed space elevator .

A solar powered steam generator that heats
water and makes steam, and the steam is released
to turn a turbine that is at the top of a
    VERY tall mountain , ie. 20,000 ft.+

The water is collected, and returned down the great height, but turns a water turbine at the bottom .

A steam power, gravity/water power cycle could keep it moving up and down the mountain

    easier to swallow unfortunately .

Right now ppl are looking at any weakness
to take advantage of to use to against us .

We need to be careful to not let the GOV
go to far, but we also need to give them
some leeway if they can present some cursory
evidence to allow the case to be pursued
as VALID threat to national security .

MP3's are not a valid threat, and some of the
other coat tail add ons to all of this
    in the GOV .

If your friend at Intel is innocent he will
be let go, as for the ppl in Cuba they are
using other methods than physical violence
    to get the information .

In cuba over a dozen have attempted suicide
for various reasons, one was that the method
they use IS working so well there .

Out of 30,000 how many do think might be
    of questionable association ???

    1% ???

If so that would be 300 people, not just one .

I tend to think that ALOT more than 1% have
hate for america but work here to send money
back to their country of origin .

Some support terrorists, some do not, I have
no idea how many, and guess what neither do you ?

This visa worker may or may not be guilty,
but they are not going to give a non-citizen
the rights of a citizen .

They came across a piece of information that
made them want to take this step, they may
be wrong, they may be right .

You have zero proof in either direction .

You are just showing your liberal bias .

Bush does spew rhetoric, and Ashcroft is a loon .

I still support their desire to round up the
scab labor here that is funding hate in the
    middle east .

I am willing to bet we do not even catch
