What they say about Slashdot readers really is true! "The bird"? Dude, there is way more than one woman on earth! And most of them have breasts, so I really don't understand what you...
Even a small portion of their goals could be beneficial for everyone, including all of us outside Sweden. Despite the A that stands for America the RIAA is a global organization (their recent attempts to pressure Russia about allofmp3.com should leave no doubt of that). So when any country forces the RIAA to adapt to different laws it makes similar laws more viable elsewhere, even if just slightly.
Imagine concert sales doubling in Sweden after such a change, or an influx of new artists as the country becomes the next Seattle. That's what we all think/hope would happen if intellectual property laws were relaxed, isn't it? That could be persuasive to the domestic powers that be.
And if nothing changed, or if the lack of intellectual property laws made things far worse well then we'd have to finally shut up about it, lol.
Wow, you sure make that American brand of capitalism look good! Expensive broadband AND health care? Sign me up!!1!
Makes me wonder what it is the US does have. Oh right, the richest man in the world. Now I get it. Americans like playing the lottery with their lives.
I'm a designer and I've used Xara quite a bit. It is a very, very good piece of software. In terms of ease of use and speed it kills all the big boys like Illustrator and CorelDraw. In fact this is the software that Corel owned/distributed at one time as CorelXara. Then they pillaged it for features and set it on its way.
It has fantastic transparency abilities and some cool bitmap-like effects such as realtime blurs. It also has some decent bitmap abilities built-in.
I know most designers won't know anything about it and the open source community won't either, so please trust me when I say this is a fantastic development. I hope to take a swing at the code, with any luck creating a mac version. Sweet.
Damn, you're right! In all our excitement over finding more water on a planet we already knew had water we completely missed the MASSIVE LIFEFORM in the photo!
Just because you're not under attack on home ground and don't hear people running and screaming is no reason to get so content that you call the guy who kept the attacks from happening for 4 years evil.
In 2000 and earlier in 2001 his administration ignored warnings that Al Qaeda was planning something big, so the problem is he should have kept the attacks from happening for 5 years.
Ironically, Nokia is the only phone manufacturer with a sane software interface.
I thought this too until I started to do some serious research. My aging nokia needed to be replaced and the new nokias turned me off for the same reason: horribly deformed keypads and general ugliness. Even though I was afraid of giving up the familiar interface I checked out some alternatives.
To my surprise Sony Ericsson has really usable phones. I had discounted them because their phones lack dedicated answer/hang up keys, but they're actually quite good. Add on the fact that they don't make you do gymnastics to dial a number and I was sold.
It's fine bundling third party stuff with your (fully paid for) products...
No it's not. I could talk about newbies, grandmothers, and so on,
but it's a downright deceitful practice that is morally reprehensible.
It's like if when you hired a plumber to fix your sink he installed a web cam, taped a few fliers on your walls and then signed you up for some magazine subscriptions. Unless you specifically mentioned he not do those things before you hired him, of course.
Actually he said the indications would be apparent in 2004 and the actual civil war would start in 2005, which leaves nine months for things to get crazy. Not that it's any more likely to come true, just thought I'd set the record straight so that when 2006 rolls around we can lay John Titor to rest.
Why can Microsoft et. al get good people to work on frickin Windows, when the MoFo has a hard time getting people to do work with sexy Firefox/Mozilla?
I heard this song on TV last night and it struck me that it explained the complex reasons why people can end up doing less-then-stellar things, such as crime or working for Microsoft. I'll quote the few lines I can recall and you can judge for yourself if this sweet rhyme enlightens you:
Scott Kurtz is horribly inconsistent, sometimes missing two consecutive days. He's a good sport to put some money in because he must know that he's basically lost before the contest even begins.
As others have mentioned Diesel Sweeties is always on time, at least for the three years I've been a reader. I can't recall a single time R has missed a day. Even the wonderfully consistent Penny Arcade has faltered at times.
Imho publishing on time - whether it's five times a week or just once a month - is crucial for a comic. That's why I don't read PvP or Megatokyo anymore.
Sure you did. Your SNES cost $293, the N64 was $254.

Inflation is real and calculable and extremely relevant to such a discussion.

Oh, wait. You're not British, are you?
what kind of man does that?
What does gender have to do with it? Women aren't any less ethically obliged to help those in peril, nor any less capable.

The most likely way that he would receive professional discipline would be as a result of one or more well-reasoned, viable complaints to the bar.
I believe this is the proper form.

it's cool to hate Intel.
You must have missed Steve's WWDC speech. It is no longer cool to hate Intel.

Using uncommon acronyms in your stories isn't a good practice. While we're geeks we still can't memorize every possible acronym.

Well, vocal chords are a biological evolution, and I'm not sure what else they could be used for.
At least a portion of the most ignorant users will still find an acceptable solution - they'll go buy a mac mini.
It's simple: it's not a rumor, it's the truth.
Duh.

"Money, money, money,
Money, money, money"
Even if the legal actions are similar, which I'm not saying they are, there is still a major difference between the two:
Apple products are simple, reliable and aesthetically pleasing. Microsoft products are none of these.

It probably won't be a problem, for two reasons:
1. It's been in beta for a while, Apple could have easily done something about it earlier.
2. It still uses iTunes. The backend uses the iTunes API to add a local stream to the library and send it to the Airport Express.
What would really make Apple upset is if someone had discovered the key being used to encrypt the audio, but that hasn't happened here.
