Apparently you missed the thundering herd of people abandoning their PS3 plans in favor of Wii and Xbox 360.
That is more or less irrelevant as long as Sony can sell their consoles as fast as they can produce them. The price is Ok (from a business POV) as long as they announce a lower price by E3 '07. Microsoft had to sell at $299/$399 because those analysts criticising MS didn't see that it was less about making money and more about making a point. I assume Sony did a quick calculation, saw that the 360 would sell out Xmas 06 no matter what, and decided to milk the early adopters instead of trading money for future market share.
Both HD-DVD and BluRay are a waste of time, but nonetheless, HD-DVD is already off to a big head start. The prices will drop faster than BluRay, and let's not forget that M$ has an add-on device for X360 which will still keep the price lower than PS3.
And you're basing all this on what? Now who's the fanboy?
Let's also not forget that NEC backs HD-DVD while Sony backs BluRay. NEC is a true technology leader and pioneer, they will outweigh the cash-strapped Sony in this fight.
Sony has movies, lots of movies, NEC doesn't. NEC is important but it's a hardware company. To cite NEC as the big reason HD-DVD will prevail is not very convincing.
OK, by now it's obvious that you are a lunatic fanboy, or an astroturfer.
Did you actually read your post? First rule of astroturfing: Accuse others of being the astroturfers. So could you please cut back on the accusations and improve your reasoning?
The unique games will be on Wii, not PS3.
Yes, the Wii will have lots of unique games, especially Nintendo's unbeatable first-party support but Nintendo tries to pitch the Wii as a console you buy in addition to a PS3/360 or as a console you buy if you otherwise wouldn't buy a console at all. Considering the 360's rather limited library if you don't like fps/sports games the fact that you can buy (most likely) a 360 *and* a Wii for the price of a PS3 is actually quite convincing (to overcome Sony's own exclusives, FFXIII, MGS, etc come to mind), therefore Moore himself proposed that you do just that
The best looking games will be on X360, as we learned from this E3
?? Do you have any non-fanboyism induced fever dreams to prove that. Everything I've heard said that at this point there's virtually no difference between the two
most Japanese devs haven't figured out how to use a pixel shader yet.
Thanks again. Switched it down to 116%. 110% was too small (felt weaker than the body text) so I just kept sizing it up until the letters looked nicely anti-aliased in Safari. Very scientific, I know.
Well, all of this is of course highly dependant on font size, monitor, resolution, dpi and rendering engine but I did some tests here and 112% and 116% were the two sweetspots. 112% is just sufficiently larger than the text to set it apart slightly while relying on the rest of the layout to make it stand out as a headline. 116% stands on its own which imho makes the headlines as a unit of font, color bar and positioning too dominant. But as I said we're talking about small differences here, it ceased to be an issue when you switched from 140 to 120 =)
Thanks! Changed the titles to be 120% of normal (was 140% before). The red tab on the left is a "mysterious future" article. Probably looks odd being the second in the list.
I think I'd prefer even smaller (though only a bit, you could try 110% =) but while the size looked kinda out of place with 140%, it's now just a matter of opinion ^^
It's not about perfect vision. My eyes are just fine thank you, but I want to keep it that way and when I'm reading web pages at the font sizes they try to force onto me it wouldn't.
Here's a list from all the links in tacos journal entries that respect your wishes - note that most others could be easily changed to use other sizes for stories and comments it's just that the designers have been too lazy or too control-freaky to do it that way in the first place. (no guarantees, if I missed one or posted the wrong entry by mistake, correct me)
MCM's design. Layout slightly botched with large font size.
But there *are* parts that imho can use a smaller font. For navigation etc. a smaller font means more categories fit onto one page so you don't have to scroll and at least in my case it's not that I can't read smaller sizes it just feels uncomfortable and tiring pretty fast.
Now if I have to use minimum font size to set the default font size of many pages to acceptable levels, many page elements suffer just because the web designer didn't do his/her job (I just did a test and none of tacos three links reacted to Firefox's font size setting, pretty disappointing)
1. Konsole was THE killer terminal app. Not quite where I think terminal apps should be, but nonetheless leaps and bounds over all others.
Yakuake is even better. Konsole in a Quake-like terminal that pops open when you hit F12. I always used one of my desktop for Konsole-only and was constantly switching between the different desktops. Yakuake is much better =)
The thing Gnome should learn from KDE is more flexibility. When using Gnome I constantly run into walls when I try to do something in a way Gnome doesn't want me to do it because someone decided doing it his way was "better". Gnome feels like Windows in this regard and I don't think that's a good thing.
The thing KDE should learn from Gnome is better discoverability. Having many features and lots flexibility is overwhelming for many users when you offer them five almost identically named options at once. The configuration of the kicker clock applet is imho the worst case scenario, some parts of kcontrol are almost as bad. In xine there's a dropdown where you can choose how many options you want from "Beginner" to "Master of the Known Universe". I think KDE desperatly needs something similar.
You know GNOME supports something like kioslaves: GNOME-VFS. SFTP, FTP, CDDA, HTTP, DAV and many other things (apparently on the fly decompression too but I don't know how that works or if that works -- file roller sucks).
But I don't think it's as well integrated as kio-slaves. Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that in one of the Gnome 2.14 new-features articles we had on/. they mentioned that gedit now supports opening ftp etc like local files.
This implies that Gnome-VFS has to be integrated seperately in every app while I can use kio-slaves in every input field that accepts uri's in every app that uses the kdelibs.
They've even stolen Microsoft's multiple SKU system (which everyone criticized), but made it worse. You can upgrade a core 360 to the same thing as the full package, but once you buy the $500 PS3, you're stuck with an inferior system.
The problem with Microsoft's two versions and the reason everyone criticized them for it is that only one of them has a HD which makes it highly unlikely that developers are going to use the HD.
The differences between Sony's two versions make no difference for the games.
The problem with the PS3 is not the two different price points but that *both* are too high.
Ahem, this is what FoxNews' London bureau chief had to say about "Fair and Balanced(TM)" =):
Even we at Fox News manage to get some lefties on the air occasionally, and often let them finish their sentences before we club them to death and feed the scraps to Karl Rove and Bill O'Reilly. And those who hate us can take solace in the fact that they aren't subsidizing Bill's bombast; we payers of the BBC license fee don't enjoy that peace of mind.
Fox News is, after all, a private channel and our presenters are quite open about where they stand on particular stories. That's our appeal. People watch us because they know what they are getting. The Beeb's institutionalized leftism would be easier to tolerate if the corporation was a little more honest about it.
(Which also contains the peep about the Beep you wished for =)
a) Wait for the PS3 no matter what (I assume the fact that you're even asking the question means you think you can still wait a few months) and if it's only for better Xbox360 deals that are gonna appear when the competition arrives
b) If first person shooters and sports games are all you want to play you probably want a 360. For most other genres the Xbox's library was severely lacking (i.e. there were some good titles but too few compared to the PS2) and it looks like the 360 isn't gonna be much better.
c) or wait for the must-have title that makes you buy one of the two. (I can name 3 for PS3 personally atm and none for the 360. I had the money for an Xbox, I'd have the money for a 360 and I could see myself buying one but I've never seen a title that had me go "Wow!")
d) The PS3 is most likely gonna be superior in terms of hardware but the difference will be small compared to the gap between Xbox and PS2. Buying a console for its hardware didn't make much sense this generation, it won't make much sense the next.
e) Possible advantage PS3: Blu-Ray, allowing you to test HD movies without paying big bucks for a Blu-Ray or HDDVD player...
Possible disadvantage PS3:... iff (if and only if =) all the rumors about the PS3's price tag are just a Sony marketing trick
I'd say at least part of those expenses are gonna be the losses from selling the 360 for $299 (uncrippled) in time for the PS3 launch or the Halo 3 release at the very latest.
Because imho Desktop Linux always had the feel of a publicity stunt/political exercise.
I got sick of all the Ubuntu hype (WOW!!!1 With Ubuntu Randy Rabbit stuff "just works"... half as good as in Fedora or SuSE 5 years ago!!~! Ubuntu is like the bestest thing evaRR!! OMGPonies!! - admittedly that got better over time - just like it did with other hyped distros like Gentoo - and *Ubuntu* got better over time so now it can live up to the hype - mostly - which in itself makes it much less annoying) early on but Ubuntu nevertheless always tried to become a better (the best) distro first; the hype, the big statements about the future of mankind and all that stuff was secondary. IMHO that was different with User Linux
In times of huge deficits and out-of-control spending politicians want to appear tough on budgets but without cutting any pork. Pure science projects are therefore a prime target.
By touting each probe as huge opportunity for important advances in climate science, medicine or whatever people (people with the power to approve budgets) care about they try to ensure continued funding of current and future projects
If I look at digg, the percentage of idiotic, flamebait and stupid-but-common-misconception posts that are modded up and of witty, insightful and thought-provoking posts that are modded down is disheartening.
Yes there are stupid mods on/.; a number of my posts have been modded down because the mod simply didn't know what he was doing or because he had an ax to grind (or modded up for the same reasons =). But overall the situation's much better here especially when the discussion's about things that tend to end in flamewars (Apple, Linux DEs etc =)
Both use Ok/Cancel (or Cancel/Ok) in too many cases. Both use the superior sensibly named buttons in many cases. I don't think Gnome is more consistent than KDE.
As scary as that slippery slope may be, suicide terrorists make traditional methods of dealing with criminals problematic.
Your only chance generally is to either convict them for shady reasons (Moussaoui, death penalty for not telling about an imminent crime seems a bit harsh in just about every context) or total surveillance (your honor, right after the part on the tape where he disobeys the Quran by fucking his fellow sucide bomber's girlfriend we can hear how he explicitly sings in the shower about blowing himself up)

Great design.
I like how you use js but nevertheless show a fully usable version with js disabled
Otherwise it looks great. =)
The small colored area to the left of a headline has a different color in one case. Does that signify the section?

MCM's design. Layout slightly botched with large font size.
Kira's revised design. Seems to scale perfectly
Dave Snyder's Design. The right-hand menu overlaps with the stories.
Helen Nicholson's design has the same problem but this time the stories are above the menu.
Hallvar Helleseth's design. Well, it's certainly different. =)

I guess that's the videogame equivalent of "As a fan of Trotsky, I hope Hitler succeeds and whips the shit out of Stalin."
