It would be great if everyone would be found to have a disorder. I have an "autistic spectrum disorder", and I don't consider it a disease, I consider it a brain/personality category. Therefore, the term "disorder" to me implies that I don't fit in some order made up by people who don't know anything about me, who I have never even met. If everyone would "have" a disorder, it would be an acknowledgement that the order they made up, isn't. There is no order, everyone is different. No matter what kind of label is stuck on you by people who think they know everything, you are the only one who can truly know and help yourself. But the lack of understanding of self, and feeling powerless to work on their problems, leads people to search for causes and solutions in the wrong places, like prescription/illegal drugs, doing their best to stay as much as possible in the victim mentality, materialism etc.. PS: yes, I know some drugs can be beneficial, but psychiatric drugs are mostly about symptom suppression.
Which, if you're right, would mean I run Linux and Windows. Which, if you're right, would mean I run Windows and... euhm... What's below Windows on the evolutionary/social status ladder? Nothing, I guess:)
True, current != power. However, their problem isn't the amount of power, but the amount of current. Because current determines how fat the power leads need to be.
...otherwise known as DMT, is believed to activate such an "extraterrestrial" communication center.
Under some circumstances, it can be released by your own pineal gland, affecting several brain regions, and it seems to be actively transported across the blood-brain barrier. IIRC, the pineal gland releases DMT when you die, which is _the_ moment for communicating with other (higher) beings. But what you think of this is, of course, subject to your own beliefs.
Alien abduction reports have a lot in common with DMT smoking experiences, suggesting these may be caused by a DMT release by the pineal gland.
Maybe there are more substances producing similar results, but DMT is certainly a special one (sorry, no time for references. Try http://deoxy.org/ ).
The same effect occurs with drugs such as ketamine, DXM, nitrous and PCP.
At increasing dosages, you lose contact with first physical reality, then your body, humanity and identity. If you take enough, the only thing remaining, is pure consciousness. Since this consciousness belongs to you, you perceive to be (merged with) everything.
IANAN(eurologist), but reading the above, you can take a guess at what I am/do;)
Though it's not _completely_ open (a few proprietary kernel modules IIRC), I love my new toy, a Motorola A780, which runs Linux natively.
It runs a distro named EZX, which is based on a Montavista-modified Linux 2.4 kernel, a GNU-ish userland (glibc, etc.), and Qt Embedded as the graphics framework.
You can easily cross-compile apps for this EZX environment (mkezx.org). Even cooler is that work is being done to reverse engineer the closed parts, and run Linux 2.6 on the device (openezx.org). Besides the kernel, people are also working to make it run a completely different distro (angstrom-distribution.org).
It's not that simple, a lot of my hardware at some point wasn't supported by {Free,Open}BSD but was by Linux, such as the Hauppauge WinTV PVR350 TV capture card (right now), Aureal Vortex 2 sound card, OnStream DI30 tape streamer, VIA Nehemiah's CPU frequency scaling.
Because of that I switched my server/MythTV box to Linux, though I was perfectly happy with FreeBSD on my server before it had to run MythTV on a PVR350.
I use a local HTML file with links to all the regularly visited sites, along with some forms for searching (google, everything2, freshmeat), some forms for logging in on various sites, and the weather report. Very handy.
NiMH batteries tend to lose power when you don't use them much, just as "normal" rechargeables. So, it's better not to use them in (for example) wall clocks. But apart from that, they indeed kick serious booty (even though I, being dutch, don't know what "booty" means). As opposed to NiCd batteries they do less harm to the environment, can give more power, and give power at a constant level until they're empty.
What about "Windows"? I think it's a stupid name that makes it look like the product is targeted at children (mommy look! there are windows!), yet MS managed to get Windows installed on the majority of workstations.
The only time I've ever actually heard the word "undecillion", was when I typed a huge number in the SBTALKER.EXE text-to-speech program, which came with my Ueber-31337 Sound Blaster 2.0. Now that's a long time ago.
Like I said the only thing I hate about it is the shuffle randomness. Apart from that I think the thing is great:) I use it with a 512MB CF card which amounts to about 11 hours of acceptable quality MP3s, and about 25 hours of Vorbis (again, that isn't supported yet). Note that this is my first MP3 player so I can't really compare it with other experiences. Of course it's worth taking a look at the Nex IIe/IA players from Frontier Labs, but I don't know about them since at the time I bought the Nex II (year ago), those didn't exist yet.
If I need an app, and there's a Debian package available, I use that. Later on I can remove the package with a simple apt-get command. If there isn't a deb available, and I get the tarball and do the "./configure && make install" thingy, the files end up everywhere in/usr/local, which makes it harder to remove.
I agree with you that if the packaging isn't done 100% correctly (as often happens with Windows apps), you indeed might get bald because of pulling out your own hair. Fortunately, the obvious and simple workaround for that is shaving your head. Works for me.
I have a Nex II MP3 player from Frontier Labs. It runs on 2 AA batteries, has a Type I/II CF slot, costs 100 euro, is flashable, can be used as a standard USB HDD (in Linux too) and has the same size as a pack of playing cards.
The only thing I hate about the player is that shuffle mode isn't 100% random.
They plan to support Vorbis in the next firmware release, which should've been ready in Q2 2003, but still isn't.

Apparently, you forgot about Skynet.

For the humor-impaired, the serious version:
I use a local HTML file with links to all the regularly visited sites, along with some forms for searching (google, everything2, freshmeat), some forms for logging in on various sites, and the weather report. Very handy.
Don't forget the RNG on VIA's Nehemiah CPU core. I've heard it's very fast and very random.

Don't worry, I'm sure that if this computer existed, it would certainly have a slot-loading CD drive.

I think Kroupware is a lot better.
