Much to my suprise, I had been going about it all wrong. you see, I am apparently

Ebay tried to pay Paypal using Paypal. Becuase Paypal flagged the transaction as "suspect", Ebay's checking account with a balance of $1.2 mil has been frozen. Multiple calls to Paypal's customer service have gone unanswered and industry experts believe it may take up to 3 months before the situation can be rectified.
You know, there are always those who argue that when someone like Saddam starts fscking with others, that instead of starting some large military campaign, why not just hire (or send) some commando types in and assasinate them.
For God's sake, when will someone digitally take out the RIAA? DoS, hack 'em, upload trojans, something! If there were ANYONE on earth that could do so without getting caught, they'd be found here on/.
I realize that I am being awfully generalistic (did I just make up a word?) but seriously, I am sick of these organizations messing with us.
Sure, let's do it the legal way, you say. Just like I can write my congressman with a 10000 signatures and he'll vote the way we want. Bullshit.
Sorry to rant. But someone had to suggest it.
Thank goodness no one can mod me as "raving lunitic"!
Having worked for a number of software companies, both in audio and video, piracy isn't really of the hugest concern, albeit when the pirate is a "home user" or enthusiast. The bottom line is that the more users you have, the more popular you are, the more revenue in the long run. Why?
If I pirate Photoshop and am able to get my chops up, I can then utilize those skills in the marketplace. When I go for a job, it is HIGHLY unlikley that my workplace will provide or condone illegal copies of Photoshop. Rather, they will purchase copies, upgrades, plugins, ect.
Software companies don't really care if indiviual users pirate software. They could try to sue individuals until the cows come home, and in the end, would only serve to piss off much of their paying customer base who WILL feel a sense of pity for those getting fined, inprisoned, ect.
In the end, most folks who use priated versions of popular software end up using it professionally in an environment where the copy they are using is perfectly legal.
Software piracy, in many cases, actually increases revenue in the long run.
After all was said and done, it wasn't really the charge for the update that got under my collar, but ALL of the time I spent trying to figure out how to get it. Apple's website is extremely vague about those details. If I could have found out right away, $20 +s&h is not a big deal at all.
I want that hour of my life back. Oh well, I'd likely waste it anyway!:P

How come Sprint takes so long for cool phones that support their technology to come out?
I know they do eventually, but it sucks to be the last in line for *drool* phones. All of their new ones, I find pretty useless. Great - I can take a picture with a Sprint phone, but can ONLY send it to another Sprint user with one of the newest phones.
There is. When I go to Apple's website and search for an update from OS X.0.x to X.1.x, I am refered to a document that shows the required update path.
The link I am given on this document for OS 10.1 ends up bringing me to the Apple store for an OS 10.2 upgrade. Which by the way when I search the Apple store for 10.1 update CD (not even looking for a free update at that point), it also brings me to a place where I can buy 10.2.
For all intensive purposes, I can't even update from 10.0.4 to 10.1.x without paying and at this point, could only do so to 10.2.
I have looked far and wide for a free update (from 10.0.4 to 10.1). If you can provide me a link to do so, I would stand completely corrected.
But when it comes right down to it, I spent quite a while on Apple's site AND on Google looking for a free update and have never been able to find anything. And I have always prided myself on being able to find stuff on Google within seconds with the proper keywords.
I like Apple's mindset when it comes to many things. This is why I have been so shocked and bitchy that I was made to pay for an upgrade to get my software working right. For all of M$'s poor policies, I generally don't have to pay for an upgrade to get just about any software I want to work.
Oops - sorry I have better things to do than to keep up with French politics. Yeah, I must sit at home watching Springer and peruse/. durring commercials.
"Jean Marie LePen is a far-right French politician."
"Would you feel better about it if they called it OS XI instead?"
I would. I would also feel better if I had a couple of years of free updates. As much as I agree that M$ can suck, they don't nickel and dime me for updates.
And I HAD to update to use FCP 3 with other plugins I had (the new plugins require FCP 3 and FCP 3 requires OS X.1.1 on the OS X side) which I use for work. See, Apple releases their newest video software and in the same breath, force me to upgrade my OS. No breaks for 2 purchases (not that I would expect it from anyone).
Imagine if MS came out with the latest version of Office and didn't make it backward compatable to Win 2000, Win ME, Win 98. It would be business suicide for them.
1. I would treat it very kindly and with respect. Not like that last son of a bitch encryption that slept with my best friend.
2. Not make the same mistake of thinking that PGP stands for "Pope's Godlike Privacy"
Available accesories include:
- Racoon tail for the antenea
- Bumper sticker that reads: My Other Car is a Skyline
- Wood paneling for sides of car
- Replacement wheels with white stripe
How come I don't see an '89 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais?
I hear you. I got the same feeling from reading Clarke's book when I was 12.
And of course, in the age of instant gratification, I want it now!

I find that the book could be a very difficult read for some and I have decided to create a Blog Book Discussion Blog to account for what looks to be a tumutuous journey through this wonderful guide. I also have plans to create m own new guide, The Blog Book Discussion Blog for Dummies, to be available in time for the holidays. Please visit my Blog Book Discussion Blog and buy my The Blog Book Discussion Blog for Dummies.
Peace, until next time...

Doesn't Trillian do secure chat?
Through the AOLIM protocol... I take it this is much more secure though?

Does this mean that not all French are pussies?

Is a Canadian allowed to say that?
Regardless, as a US citizen, I would like to back up the parent statement wholeheartedly.

I don't doubt it does, but I paid for OS X, I paid for OS X.1 and now I've paid for OS X.2
