I'd give these clowns a point just because it was their first real attempt at making a movie (please ignore "Star Wreck"), they did it on a budget (IndieGoGo and KickStarter), and it was at the very least funny ("one last .... ... trick"). The scene when only Finland is caught having a non-weaponized space station in the demilitarized zone (space) is quite funny, too.

(I didn't find a The Expanse specific heading) I had really high hopes for The Expanse in that it was a SCIENCE fiction (much like The Martian) rather than a sciencey fantasy (Star Wars). The whole proto-molecule thing turned me off and I started being aware of glitches I would have ignored otherwise: slow motion projectiles, enormous interior room of the Rocinante, Bang and Olufsen headphones, Vixen Optics telescopes... Come on, Writers; you can do better than Harry Potter-esque (fantasy) cop-outs inherent with super technology (indistinguishable from magic; thank you Arthur Clarke)!

When you add semantics, it gets really bad: "Miley Cyrus bombed" ... she bombed what!?!? (http://thatgirlattheparty.com/tgatp-2010-oscar-fashion-roundup/) We'll have to keep trying and progressing, obviously. The story of the two elderly and deaf guys on a train in the UK comes to mind: "I say, is this Wembley?" "No, it's Thursday." "I am too! Let's get a drink." 21. Core or Edge? on Google Router Rumors · · Score: 1, Redundant

If the Google router is a core router, the effect on Juniper will be minimal: Google (and Verizon and...) likes the Juniper edge routers. I can understand Google considering its own core, but to dive into the edge business would be suicide.

Core routers seem glamorous but, while they are ludicrously quick, they get that speed (at least in part) by being dumber than dirt. Unlike edge routers, they don't have sophisticated authentication (RADIUS and the like), their DHCP support is primitive at best (and the world will still need IPv4 for some time to come), and the various governments are going to require some kind of CALEA facility or those pipes will get ripped right out of the ground. The list of technical hurdles for a new "edger" is really formidable. Oh yeah, don't forget the multitude of edge resident PSEUDO-protocols - really just hacks for some carrier's specific needs (example: a 5k byte DHCP renewal packet) and only minimally documented.

I cannot see Google duplicating all of the edge stuff ... at least, I think they're smarter than that. If otherwise, the stock to dump is Google's.

  23. Re:Another common mistake. on Time for a Vista Do-Over? · · Score: 1

Spot on! "CUSTOMERS of Microsoft" is the real (mis)perception and it is at the company itself. When MS deploys Windows, it does not perceive that deployment (either on a new machine or as a purchase of an upgrade) as the delivery of a tool but as the installation of a channel through which other sales may be made. That is the reason that there is so much cruft: "Lite" versions of various packages, not-quite-hidden means of automatically installing and starting unwanted software, the "Community" part of MSVS, DRM, the whole MSN annoyance.

Like anything new, these channels have unintended consequences: I am waiting for the uproar when the minimal PC for education starts soliciting children to sign up for MSN Adult.

Some of this is an attempt to do what Google made famous: offer something that is wanted/needed/required and pay for it through advertisements. In the case of Windows, the model is a bit more onerous in that there is an up-front fee (purchase price). So far, the model has worked - Microsoft's profits are quite healthy, thank you. However, there is absolutely no good will toward the company. Whether or not in the near future this will bite them is the question.
