    an excelent sql book is Joe Celko's SQL for Smarties: Advanced SQL Programming. it gives you an good idea of what is possible with sql: more than you ever knew, probably.

    (but you still need your vendor's documentation, because no one really implements standard sql correctly.)

    how do the rest of you pursuade them that all the cables...

    that's impossible, so you don't: you use 802.11b.

    as for the ...servers and sky-high comms costs...

    you need to figure out a way to make them useful to her... if you've got an ADSL line, register a domain for her and set up a web site that she can maintain. if you've got mucho disk space, buy her a digital still/video camera.

    agreed, this is not funny. I worked in the wtc (north tower, 9*th floor) and I know many, many people that died (instantly, I hope).

    the shitheadery that you demonstrate is currently the bane of my existance.
