Has anyone looked in depth at the impact of secondary effects in heural nets akin to those that might happen in the human brain, for example the injection of noise from physically close neurons? If having some random noise in our neural nets is a requirement for a conscious being, then surely we can never hold exact knowledge and that would also eliminate any possiblity of there being a conscious God with all knowledge as the two states are mutually exclusive? What do you see as the social impact of creating a conscious machine? How to you see the work in AI contributing to other disciplines like psychology? Do you think that complexity, whether expressed as a genotype/phenotype or consciousness is the maximum potential output of the universe and therefore the "meaning" of the universe is to be a generator of these ever more complex systems?

This is actually very true, I am part of the current trial of ADSL technology in the UK, and the support we give each other is an order of magnitude better than that we get from the incumbant telecoms company (BT) that supplies the service, personally if I wanted to build good customer service I would hire the people who naturally gravitate towards helping others in that area, as they are a self selecting group and their knowledge and expertise would mean that there would be better FAQs, and smaller overall numbers of support staff.

However, the Cluetrain manifesto is making the point that the Net, in all its forms is changing the granularity of this process, so that we can examine and debate at an individual level, think of it like a market, when you have few players prices and products/services tend to be different than in a market where there are hundreds or thousands of people competing, to me this is a Good Thing, as this finer granularity removes us from static positions into conversation, negotiation, innovation and change, a shift of focus from the destination to the path, this is just another step along the way, I know many here on /. already live life like this, the Cluetrain Manifesto is just that message wrapped up in marketers clothing, I for one think they have done a service to try to bring onboard another section of the population.

The only other thing is some good documentaries, like for example the recent series on the Japanese economic bubble and a good history of the LTCM (Long Term Capital Management) debacle, so I do manage to get something for the licence fee, although not that much, also I have now started watching some of the documentaries on PBS via ICraveTV over the Net, which fill in blanks in my head, TV can make you think, but we need more and better programs to do so.
