I would recommend AGAINST checking his website. I tried to, and the first thing that happened was I had 3 popups blocked and it asked to install GAIN! Slashdot readers asking me to install GAIN??? Oh, the irony!
You do realize that "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is the name of the book upon which the movie "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" was based, don't you?
I believe this is part of human nature. Just look at the idea of custom paint jobs on cars, changing the look of a motorcycle, etc. This is part of our desire to personalize everything so that it becomes uniquely our own.
The RIAA doesn't purport to represent artists. The RIAA has always represented the record companies, it's an idustry organization. The record companies purport to represent the artists, but we all know what a sham that is.
Sounds like you should move to some socialist nation. Do people really believe that a) it's the governement's job to provide your every need and coddle you from cradle to grave and b) that the government could really do a good job of it?
Completely different. The internet requirement is completely arbritrary. You obviously didn't understand what I meant by "on principle". What I mean is requiring me to connect to them in order to play a single player game. I'm sorry that you don't understand the concept of principles.
the 17" LCD on my desk measures over 9 inches when you count the stand, so another 7 still doesn't come close to the depth of a traditional CRT. I'm in this market.
Well, I can see how you keep the weight off. Pasties can't add much more than a couple of ounces, and the act of eating them probably burns a lot of calories!
I rarely read the requirements list because I always have a computer very near the latest technology (a side effect of working for a PC builder).
This isn't about fair, this is about the right way and the wrong way to treat paying customers. Hopefully, there will be enough people who don't become paying customers to show that this is the wrong way.
And why does everything always have to degenerate to personal attacks?
I've said it before, I'll say it again. I attempted to install a purchased, boxed copy of HL2 on a system at work which is not connected to the internet because part of my job is testing. Guess what? I can't play my legit copy on this system. What's wrong with this picture? I will be returning this copy and I will not be playing HL2, now or ever. Before anybody comments, it's obvious I'm not alone, and there are many games I have never played on principle, and won't play.
On the other hand, when I opened a brand new store bought copy of HL2 and tried to install on a test machine at work (because it's part of my job) I couldn't even install and play it because that machine has no internet connection at all, and it won't ever have one. So the end result is that I can't use a legally purchased copy of a single player game. Valve will not be getting any of my money, this copy will be returned.
especially when it's a party that tends to discipline those members who stray from the party line
Are you implying that one of the two major parties is more likely to do this than the other? If so, you haven't been paying attention. Nobody who wants support from their party strays too far from the party line.
Yeah, that's a great idea. I'm sure no one has ever lost the data stored on a (insert HDD based MP3 player here). The fact is, they are all pretty fragile and subject to easy destruction. The one place I wouldn't count on for long term archival storage of my digital photos is on my MP3 player. One good drop and they're all gone.
When enough people express an interest in buying one that it will be worth the trouble to change their factory process and build an image to put on it. In other words, not anytime soon.
Being at work currently, I have little choice in browsers.

Really? Have you seen my job description? Do I work for you? How do you have a clue what I get paid to do?

It's not FUD if I want to play a legit copy of the game on a system that is not (and never will be) connected to the internet. How is this FUD?

Perhaps he meant sales of two movies, maybe Trekkies 1 AND 2? My, what wonderful critical thinking skills you possess

But apparently, most of them forget it by the time they're able to post to /.!
**rimshot**
Maybe one or more of them "sponsored" the article? This conspiracy theory stuff is just too easy.
don't most /.ers do that every day?
When that happens to me it's usually because I'm broke...
I was planning on RTFA that showed which ATM's will be running Windows... but I couldn't find it!
