Linux is so great I'm surprised MS hasn't tried to use it. Novell, now Sun. Maybe MS is next, or would they just F it up like everything else they touch?? Once companies start realizing if they work with Linux, not against it, they may be spared once Linux takes over the world! Linux is so cool!!!
Agreed! How often do you need to change DNS? If you did, on a Win2K box 6 or 7 key strokes later AND USER IS DONE. If I had to oversee every minor change on a box, I would not have time to do the real job, reading/. I know all admin's are control freaks. We have to be. Spend you time controlling the things that really matter. Like what IIS exploit I have to address this week.;-}
I've been using GNAT Box LT for three years now. I love it. The first time I set one up I was handed the box and was told by my boss to "set it up and make it work". I took it to the client site and two hours later I was done. The Web console interface is great. The product is really easy to use. Running the light version at home behind my cable modem I have never had an intrusion, at least not that I know of. The light version does not have DMZ or VPN capability. Through the use of dynamic DNS and port forwarding I have been able to host web and mail. This is against my service agreement but I have never been shutdown by my cable provider. I admit my traffic is VERY light, I believe this is why I have never been shut down. The registered version gives me 5 outgoing IPs. It does exactly what I need for my home network. Even though there is no support for the light version, I registered at their site http://www.gnatbox.com and posted a question in a forum. The question was answered by one of GTA's programmers in less than a day. I don't work for GTA I just like the product.
I would love to try the CrunchBox, only if they did what GTA did with GNAT box and offered a free limited use package for the home user. With port forwarding I really don't need a DMZ, VPN would be nice but not necessary. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Re:the fly isn't the problem folks......the folks are the problem. Does anyone else see that things like infected fly and hungre tigers are natures little way of keeping balance in the deversice echosystem we call Earth? If every child born survived untill "natural" death comes to take them, I would have no place to keep the 5-6 computers running or the nessary priferial equipment. Not to mention we would all need to evolve at such rate we would have out grown the need for personal H2O (coffee in my case) consumption. Because there would be no H2O. The oceans, lakes and stremas would have run dry centuries ago.
