I must be getting old. I can't recall any good quotes from the movie. It was a weak script. I really thought they should have killed Optimus a lot later in the movie. He survivied all that pounding on the TV show only to be quickly killed off in the movie. Does that seem right to you?
You don't need antivirus crap so stop pushing it. Don't open email except in plain text. Don't run attached files. Don't surf the web with JavaScript or Flash or other crap enabled. Don't leave unknow floppies in your machine during boot.
Simple percautions is all you need to take. Every computer I've owned starting with my TI-99/4a to my new Dell Dimension 9100 has been virus/spyware/adware free and never had any kind of anti-virus waste of money software.
Seriously how could anyone mod it as troll? Oh yeah that's right the truth hurts.
The only flaw with the parent post is that Ubuntu while much better than Debian, is still to heavily based on Debian. Hopefully the manpower which has flowed to Ubuntu will start releasing the missing security updates. Otherwise we all need to start looking towards RHEL or someother not exactly free Linux.
It's even more than that. The wireless router received a standard, "can I have legitimate credentials on this network?" request in the form of a DHCP lease request.
I hope this guy uses this argument and the jury/judge can understand it as this is the key. You can't access a network without being given permission and that permission is usually giving by some automated process.
Both approaches are wrong. Charging at time of purchase a disposal fee is placing the burden on the wrong person. They may end up selling it or giving it as a gift. Therefore they're not the ones causing a problem.
Charging the computer makers is also wrong. They're making a product people want. They shouldn't need to even see it again.
The disposal fee should be paid by the person who actualy disposes of it. This will encourage people to take it somewhere for recycling who will buy it from them, instead of to the dump where they'll have to pay to get rid of it.
Mass produced media has all but killed small theatres and live entertainment.
That's b/c no one wants to waste their time in a crappy small theater or watch a bad performance live. The free market kills off these inferior forms of entertainment and I say it is a good thing.
Do people really drive around in a ton of metal and not know in advance how it operates when bad things happen to it? When, exactly, are they planning on learning? The time to learn what happens when you slam on the brakes on a puddle of water is not in the middle of traffic.
Yes. Some of the brightest people I know haven't a clue about that big metal box that takes them to and from work and shuttles their children around. Driver Education classes (especially in high school) are a joke. They barely teach what to do when everything is working. If they manage to get to the chapter on what to do when something goes wrong it is nothing more than a multiple choice open book test. No real training at all.
Interesting how this article which does everything the infamous MoG article did is praised yet MoG gets slammed.
People's addresses and other personal contact information are being published. Oh the horror public information is being made public. Just shocking. This person should be banned.
Address and Phone numbers are public information. Thanks to Maureen O'Gara's investigation, we might finally have some infomration about these shady anonymous cowards known as groklaw. I hope she continues the story and finds out the truth.
I have never sent spam yet AOL doesn't have a way to get off of the blacklist. If there was a way to get off the blacklist, I wouldn't mind them too much blocking Comcast by default. As it stands now AOL has a completely unreasonable policy and I will continue to blame them for their idiocy.

Yeah that was in my early days, I almost didn't continue with Linux.
So what is the best?
I've got two boxen at home, one RH9 which is great. The other is FC3 which is like beta testing for their RHEL. At work I've got RHEL and it is really great. I just need something for home that doesn't cost $$ and allows more flexiability than Windows.
Someone has to pay for the bandwith and the server that the forum runs on. If the Forum can't support itself, society is saying it is too costly for what if any benefit it provides. It may be that greedy idiots are running the forum and make the cost too high. It may be other forums have lower costs or better information and thus drives this one out of busiess. Regardless, the Marketplace works once again.

Why is the shotgun approach so attractive in fighting spam?
Because it is easy.
I hate AOL for so many reasons. Most recently b/c I can't send email to my friends any more. Aparently b/c they block all comcast email.
I try Yahoo.com and allthweb.com. If I'm really sure it exists and can't find it on the first three then I'll try altavista.
The next step, is to start posting in forums where people might know about it. If I really really need to find it I might also post to usenet. I don't do that to much as I get about 1000 new spams a day for every usenet posting.
They blacklist the entire range of comcast IP's. I can't send mail to any AOLuser without using someone else's mail server. It gets hard and hard to do this. I've never sent spam from my mail server yet I can't get unblocked b/c they won't even respond.
I only have to friends on AOL anymore, so I might go ahead and blacklist all of AOL. Everyone else should do the same.
Linus has made his decision and i think that this isn't that good for bitkeeper.
Actually I think it is good for bitkeeper. No one at my company had ever heard of BitKeeper until this controversy started. Now they're looking into using it.
ACTIVE DESKTOP DEACTIVATED. What is the deal with the Active Desktop having to be running to put up wallpaper? What's the point of that? And once in awhile, Active Desktop turns itself off and asks me if I want to reactivate it. Since the computer knows that I enabled Active Desktop in the first place, what is the point of this stupid Q&A? Why doesn't the OS just do the reactivation itself?
I think that is more proof the guy is nuts. Anyone who uses Active Desktop is just asking for trouble.
Another point about FC... it really is nothing but the beta version of RHEL. I installed FC3 a few weeks ago and I'm sorry I did. My RH9 box was more stable. The RHEL server at work is more stable.
So called community support at fedoraforums.org is more like the blind leading the visually impared. Every question I've asked to the community has been answered wrongly or not answered at all.
WBEL is my leading candidate to replace FC. CentOS is a close 2nd. It boils down to the fact that the guy doing WB has several servers and over 50 workstations and I think that is more of an incentive than the folks over at CentOS have.

Let me guess, you're one of those annoying people who walk into the TV room and start babbling when I'm trying to listen to my favorite show.
You're the one who needs to seek help. Such rude behavior is usually indicative of a more serious problem.
Yes but who assigned RIPE the IP addresses that it can allocate? ICANN that's who.

I have Tritium sights on my Glock and don't need a license or medical exam. You can get Tritium it is just expensive.
It was IJ's lawers who made it possible to take this case to the SCOTUS and to win the case.

I don't understand. Are you saying we shouldn't do this? I've done this with some friends just for kicks.
Yes I did. Did you?? Crystal's email address is her private address.

At least we don't have to worry about the horror of having to downgrading from 2.96 to 2.95. Was I the only one about to give up on Linux after that disaster? Just for reference: http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/10/07/ 0027218&tid=106
