Free and opensource software is perfectly capable of being commercial. For instance MySQL, Redhat, Novells Suse. And closed source / proprietary software can easily be uncommercial. So please stop using "commercial", as an antonym for opensource.
As for the topic:
Can the two coexist?. Well, it depends. Does BOTH sides want this coexistence?. I see fare more hostility, coming from the proprietary side than from us. So i dont think or fell, that it is up to us to decide. For better or worse.....
Ehh?
PowerDVD is a *Proprietary* product.
Commercial only means they make theyre living on it.
MySQL for instance is a commercial free software / opensource product.
I'm never going to use PowerDVD, so i guess that makes me a criminal.
Well BLOW ME!
When i first looked at Redhat 6.0, i saw a very powerfull system. (Compared to the rotten Win98 crap we used then)
Later on i learned about the whole story.
I learned about the GNU in GNU/Linux, an why the freedoms free software gives are more than important.
Windows?... Well the license forbids me to use it, since i clearly don't agree with they're license.
Besides Windows comes from a box, GNU/Linux comes from a community...:)
So someone who works with Photoshop on a daily basis, finds Photoshop more powerfull and intuitive... How chocking!
However i DO find it usefull, for gimp to get feedback form as many users as possible.
Gimp as many other programs, will always need ekstra features.
And some of the tools in it, could properly need a little work and polish.
But until hell freezes, and Photoshop gets GPL'ed i sure couldn't give af fuck.
I don't care if Paintshop Pro, and Photoshop Elements are cheaper.
They er still under the wrong license.
I have a nice and free (as in speech) operatingsystem, and i'm sure not going to install nonfree things again.
[If the latest revalations regarding IBM's possible leakage of copyrighted Unix code into Linux have proven anything, it is that using any derivative of this outdated operating system is a legal disaster waiting to happen.]
Alligations that they have shown no intention of proving.
[Not only is Linux licensed under the anti-business GNU General Public License, but it turns out that commercial code may have been unlawfully added, making it illegal to use or distribute.]
GPL is NOT anti-business.
It is anti-proprietary which is an entirely different matter.
And everything SCO has claimed so far, has been disproven within days.
[And it is available essentially for free, preloaded on hardware from all major manufacturers.]
WTF?!...
Its certaintly not cheap, and the support is far from perfect.
I've used both Windows XP and Linux, untill jeg flushed Windows off my computers at home.
I'm not missing Windows one bit...
[There is really no reason to use anything else, unless you need a truly high-performance computing system such as IBM's proprietary OS/390 or HP's OpenVMS.]
Yes there is!
Better support, more privacy, more security, more freedom at a fraction of the cost!.
Ive hears about these initiatives in my country before, and well talk is cheap.
I'm a free software user and supporter.
We need at least open standards for all companies wanting to do business with our goverments.
Open source would be nice, but i could settle for open standards as the next best thing..;)
And yes we danish are a lot more than pastry, for years we were known and feared as the notoriuos vikings at sea.
Tro det eller lad vaer - Believe it or not..;)
