    it doesn't have to burn the oxygen--the explosion MOVES the oxygen, greating a relatively large plume where the atmosphere is pure TNT exhaust--which doesn't contain any free oxygen. The fire smothers.....

    If you don't use enough explosive, the exhaust plume isn't big enough, and oxygen has time to migrate back in before the fire goes out

    Bull-- it's more like a car that has a safety related recall once or twice a week.. The fact that I have to patch my Windows systems multiple times every month is evidence of a fundamentally flawed product.

    The old truism is that if you look a generation or two back at any big family fortune, you'll find some laws broken...

    Vast wealth virtually requires playing fast and loose with the rules of society Case in point--I give you Mr. Gates and his anti-trust difficulties. Or, if you prefer, you could consider the Kennedys and Joe's bootlegging activities.

    The mere fact that you get to keep the money (again, consider Mr. Gates or Mr. Kennedy...) doesn't mean that your means of getting it were entirely honorable.

    whatever else happens, he's got a fabulous write-off coming.

    As I write this on Weds night, the bidding is up to ~$14,000, and nearly certain to go higher. Even if he's true to his word and donates it, that's a pretty nice deduction. And the best part is--even if he never sees the money, he still gets the write-off; it just becomes a bad debt instead of a charitable contribution.

    Damn, I wish I'd thought of it!

    a 30 year program is gov't speak for "we don't have a clue how long it'll take, but give us some money anyway, cause it sounds so good...". Far enough into the future that no accountability is required, but not so far as to sound ridiculous

    Case in point--fusion has been 3 decades from practicallity for about 5 decades now...

    Anytime somebody proposes a 30 year R&D program--run the other way, and check your wallet as you go.
