    Depending on the set of numbers that you use from this study, "adjusting radio/cassette/CD" causes between 1.5% and 3% of all automobile crashes.

    I hooked my ipod into my mr2 (manual, natch) by way of the tape deck and left the iwred remote thing between the shifter and P-brake. With its known position and four buttons, it was easier than changing channels on my radio.

    If using an iPod causes a fatal automobile accident, will some victim of such an accident eventually try to sue Apple?

    Well, duhh, what country do you live in?

    I'm just saying that it's not a bad idea to prohibit kids from buying them, same as we prohibit them from buying porn, booze, and tobacco. It's a little something I like to call "common sense".

    And if you want to do that, then be prepared to hold movies to the same standard. Right now, a kid is allowed to buy R rated movies if he wants to, so why not video games?

    "Off Shaw" is NOT a misspelling according to a spell checker. Its a homophone, which means that to correct it (and anyother such mistake) I'd have to look up every word I typed in a dictionary.

    Yes it is a misspelling, and no, a homophone is a single word. If you knew anything about what you were talking about, you'd be able to spell offshore correctly and wouldn't have to use a dictionary.

    Modern computers have the resources.

    That's not the point. Every service is a potential security hole. Turn them on only if they're needed.

    Guess how literate the vast majority of these users are. I'll give you a hint: Well worded dialogs haven't done enough to prevent these problems before.

    Yeah, most users are illiterate, or they just don't read, but well worded dialogs are in the distinct minority.

    Ah yes, tapping into the sequestered nerd stereotype. Tell me, would controlling a smaller set of breasts to some degree be a lesser achievement? I find that breasts look best when matched to the women who own them. Since I like smaller women, they tend to have smaller boobs. Eh, whatever.

    Not true, but if you leave all your money in a pile by your door, then you have little recourse when someone take it.

    IANAL, but your machine is manipulating those bytes as they go by, and therefore you're tampering with their communications which may be legally protected.

    Of course, you're doing that already by routing them at all. I'd like to see what protections exist for this sort of thing - apparently nothing is being recorded.

    Then explain why they won't give you monthly service (save for prepaid) without a 2 year contract.

    Sounds like one of those 'your job is your credit' or 'guaranteed financing' places. They sometimes make a business of selling the same car multiple times and reposessing it after a few months when someone misses a payment.

    I would've just cancelled, denied the contract, and then challenge the debt as illegitimate on the basis that I had never been informed that they expected a 2 year contract, much less agreed to one.

    US consumers have voted with their dollars, they would rather have the Motorola Razor for $50 than have an easier time switching providers.

    Speak for yourself. I got mine for $230, but it's unlocked and I can upload mp3s as ringtones if I like, or even go to DE and buy a prepaid sim there. You can too - just go to amazon.
