ok this makes me sick. If you are really interested in security then you better not be hiring Mr. point and click. This is serious business and if some IT thinks he can simply install a service pack and poof! security! then he should be fired. Don't you think?
Alot of people like the idea of linux as a server and BeOS for the desktop. IMHO, linux should concentrate on being the best server platform instead of working on cuter icons. Linux needs clustering support for example...lots of things are needed to compete on the server front and if it's trying to be the OS for everyone, the other server platforms will look much more attractive. It's all about focus and building on your strengths.
What the heck are you talking about? I mean it was funny reading at least 5 posts here on the lines of "if I can't see it it's not a proof" but this is really strange
Quote from article: "The work appears to have the blessing of much of the religious establishment, which has reacted with caution to the development. " I'm sorry, I don't understand why so many people here have a "problem" with God or religion. Most people believe in God. It's not such a "radical" concept. Most scientists believe in God. Maybe a few eccentric types who are locked up in their universities or cubicles don't and go ballistic at any mention of the "G" word but maybe they should just get out in the real world and get a life. It's not such a big deal.
BeOS is probably the best OS in the amiga spirit but yeah it runs on hardware that has nothing to do with multimedia. In fact there is no computer today designed specifically for multimedia except for expensive SGI's.
Just 2 problems: 1) game consoles aren't upgradable and it takes a long time for the next version tocome out unlike pc's (how old is the original playstation vs athlon 650's you see today 2) it's very hard for a game console to come out of the woodworks. So what's it gonna be? Sega, Nintendo or Sony? Once you pick a console you're gonna stick with it for quite awhile so might as well wait for all 3 to come out and pick the best one. Otherwise you'll buy all these games for dreamcast, find out that sony's is better and you won't be able to get the really good ones.
The reason why microsoft wants wince in the game consoles is so that game developers will stick to using Microsoft API's-exclusively instead of making cross-platform games. That means fewer games for linux, mac, BeOS,other non-windows consoles. Microsoft has the lock on pc's-enough already.I don't want them to have yet another monopoly here.

Be had problems with the GPL before and the linux community raised a big stint about it. I don't think Be wants to even bother with the ASPL because they'd need a bunch of lawyers just to make sure that Apple wouldn't take them to court (they probably would just like they did with e-machines). NetBSD? sounds like a good point there

Server side filtering is cheaper (just do it once instead of software for every user) and if ISP's have to filter anyway then this is what they'll end up doing.
Why can't people debate whether GPL'ed software compares with BSD alternatives on technological merits instead of which has the better philosophy? If someone can show me that GPL'ed software is of a better quality than the BSD'ed stuff then maybe you can make a case that GPL is better for the world. I don't think anyone has made such a clear cut causal relationship between the license and software quality yet.
Hopefully it will be easier to port to BeOS and other operating systems now. Bad license? You really think it's worse than its original license? give me a break
It does...so much. This company was around forever. I remember Hercules when some of you were in diapers (grin). I remember their monochrome cards in the dos days. And of course they made the best Riva cards too-I guess it's up to Creative now to lead the way

Just because you can't see something doesn't mean you can't prove it exists. You prove the invisible by its effects on other things.

I don't think this is a complete computer system-just a board. I'm still waiting for something that works right out of the box
North Korea has real oppressive censorship and it's an atheist country
