yes but if linux gets too bloated then it turns into another windows. It's also possible for another big company such as IBM or even Corel to take the whole thing and offer even better support than anything tiny Redhat may offer.
so don't go to kansas for your education. Or go to a private school. And it works both ways. If you don't want evolution don't get the govt public schools involved-just go to a private school that doesn't teach evolution.
well if MS is competing with redhat and redhat doesn't fight back, they'll lose. Remember, redhat is a public company so it's important what they do-not what Linus says
a) they can't until silence period is over b) Intel is investing in it (sounds major to me huh? c) J&R music/computer world here in NY has BeOS on its shelves
I don't mind the patents (and I'm consistent with my belief that patents help prevent people from stealing the hard-earned resources of small companies that come up with new ideas. If there were no patents, few would invest the resources to come up with new innovations). However, I'm still waiting for transmeta to actually ship a working product in sufficient quantities. If IBM is doing the manufacturing then they have a chance but I'm sure AMD will be the first to tell you how hard it is to compete with intel.
I don't think the transmeta will even ship or live up to the hype if it does and if that's the case then the Amiga is truly dead. oh well, I'm sure Mr. Torvalds could find another job that pays a ton of money in a second

I think their plan is to create a system for linux users to put on their tv's. You have the extreme configurability with no UI style guide, you have a chip which lists emulating other platforms (a hot topic here) as its main feature, and the whole concept of amiga objects in java only makes sense if you already have a PC to network with. This is all cool stuff but I don't think people who never bought a computer before will want this.
if linux is an advanced mature desktop platform, where's Quicken, Photoshop, AOL, even one educational program for the kiddies and even one flight simulator game? The mac has all this stuff and alot more.
So many distros and nobody wants to do anything meaningful such as knocking off that crazy/usr/ stuff in the directory system. Now that would be interesting and worth supporting.
If these Amiga guys get their act together then we'll see a linux distro that actually meets with many of the article's suggestions. Problem is, apps written for this OS won't work with the other linux distros. It might even have a proprietary interface instead of going 100% GPL.
Remember when everyone feared that Compaq after taking Digital would dump alpha and unix in favor of wintel? My how thing changed
oh but computing isn't that static. once it's installed you have new OS updates and new hardware to reconfigure for.

well if atheists are getting their arguments from the hitchhiker's guide, no wonder why there are so few of them left

always looking for new taxes instead of cutting government spending we don't need or want because it serves some vocal constituency

they weren't losing money-they were spending it on R&D. It's not easy creating an OS and a community around it from scratch.
Avid dropped mac, right?

the whole market tanked today. You should look at the top ten gainers for the day. Be is on that list
BEOS came in 6th place for the day http://finance.yahoo.com/a3?u
easy for you to say. It was MY story :)

yes please -don't screw up MY universe,ok? go nuke some other universe
man if this blows up the earth I'd be really really pissed
the startup time is much better now. It makes it much more easier for me to replicate all those bugs (and some that I found were fixed for M8)
luddite :)
these guys are working on it http://www.NexwareCorp.com/
