1) Daniel Roberts is working on a Motif port 2) Christopher Blizzard is working on implementing the platform specific parts of gecko (gfx (rendering) and widget (widgetry)) using xlib only. That is without using an x toolkit. 3) Check out the MathML project at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/
this is gecko. Now this is one step closer for real-world web ability in linux apps such as web authoring tools (like homesite or hot dog), multimedia hypertext presentations using dynamic html, your own custom non-netscape browsers that renders websites the same way as Netscape, etc
some have mentioned using this for html help files. That's nice. email and newsreaders with html? even nicer. But the full potential of gtkmozilla is using it in css authoring tools. A simple html 3.2 widget isn't enough. You need a browser component that's meant for the real world if you want to design for the web
The whole point of getting IE on linux is get all the webpages in the world to conform to MS standards instead of cross-browser/w3c standards. That way you'd pay for MS servers running on NT or MS Office on Windows which is tuned for the new MS web. Demand a standards compliant browser from mozilla or Opera or kfm or whatever. Just don't think MS would work on a free browser for linux to strengthen linux
they are doing a good job so far with their trenches, hiding troops and weapons in churches, hospitals and with refugees while NATO is too scared to send in Apaches let alone ground troops.
after all those benchmarks showing that NT crushes linux, why would MS have anything to fear from not going open source? I'm not trying to say that the benchmarks are valid or that linux doesn't have other advantages such as stability. But it seems to me that MS is on the attack right now and none of this "oh we're scared of linux Mr. DoJ. It's a competitive threat"
This is really serious and can't be countered by cooking up new benchmarks or bashing pcweek because it's zdnet or whatever. Nor can you hide behind your 486. I mean if we want to see linux as a real player or do we want to look like people holding on to their Amiga 500's? So if caldera redhat debian and everyone else really cares about linux survival I recommend working on a master plan to fix all the flaws of the OS. Linux' 15 minutes of fame are up. It's time to get serious
this I think is more interesting news than a bugfix for Netscape 4.5. People are working on MathML support in mozilla. Join them http://www.mozilla.org/projects/mathml/
this has nothing to do with newt. Besides, ideas aren't decided by popularity polls. Anyone think RMS will be the next president? If he lost (and I'm sure he would) does that mean we should throw out the gpl? come on
no...it's that mozilla redraws too much and other bugs
it's these reflow bugs that slow down everything

i Didn't see anything Wrong with the original post. maybe I'm missing Something...

BeOS is here now. Developers are writing modern apps for it now. Amiga OS (if it ever comes) will be too little too late.
can someone say Guru meditation?
now I'm going to write a letter to Electronic Arts asking why they discontinued Commodore 64 support. I mean come on
because it's linux software
ugh who wants to use the keyboard with all the _grease_ that's on it after people used it
GPL isn't communist. It's just a license to keep linux open. Redhat and caldera sell linux distros. They make money
I won't be happy until linux apps also appear on retail shelves. (ok ok linux distros come with lots of stuff but the OS should be just the beginning)

heh your "work" probably consists of writing mirc scripts. Go back to school, Anonymous Coward
heh when IE crashes the OS goes down too
kfm is a file manager like windows explorer which has a web view. It isn't a serious real-world browser.
so there really is a MS tax

name me a famous congressman who wouldn't
